I painted that truck in Dad's backyard, outside. He said it didn't matter, that when he was in the Army he saw men painting them outside often. Just so they had something for the men to do.
I sprayed it, then he bought the stencil kit.
We have his Korean War unit on the front bumper. 7th...
After all the consternation and headaches, the old 6x6 seems to be running pretty well. Problem is, I really do not know what we did? On the advice of an old experienced mechanic we put the old original coil back in the truck. At the same time I used a vaccum gauge to adjust the carb and...
I think you are correct. I been begging for it, but no luck locally. So we took a test run this evening and it ran great for 3 or 4 miles. Then it started to lose power. Not a lot, but certainly noticable. We did have an experienced mechanic suggest we change the coil. So when we got back...
I think I understand what you're saying. It's jsu that I am reluctant to take the carb apart as I really do not understand how a carb works, and other than crud and dirt, or something obvious, I would not really know what to look for?
Thanks
I also discovered last evening that the valve on the crankcase ventilation system actually has no internals. Meaning it is open all the time? Even though it is a very small hole, isn't that a vacuum leak?
Thing is, for 20 years or so since we been running the truck just fine, it has always...
I am starting new thread because the other is just too long and involved. Basically as a review, the truck idles well but has no power on the road. So this evening we did vacuum test. Manual says it should be 17 to 20". After some adjusting of the carb idle jets and a little turning of the...
Mulaney,
Thanks for that suggestion. I did try that a week or so agao with no difference detected. BUT, what we had was called "starting fluid" it did not say either. I told my son to pick it up on his way home from work and that is what he bought.
Is there a difference? It smells like...
We could not get to check the compression or vacuum today. There was a "mechanic" (?) my son had coming over this afternoon, but he backed out. And I had other things I decided needed done.
But concerning vacuum let me ask this? There is a line from the intake manifold to the valve cover...
Sir, I appreciate your comments. I am aware of what makes an old gasser run. But this is what makes this all so perplexing. I have gone thru that trouble shooting part of the manual, not completely, but a lot of it. What gets me is it seems fixed, then does it again? I am about to try the...
checked each plug for spark and they all have spark. We cannot continue to keep tearing things apart, seeming to find and fix the problem, then it starts all over again. There has to be something causing this.
It has been suggested we buy a rebuilt carb? But I am reluctant to cough up The...
IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN!!??
Took the truck to a veterans event last afternoon, and the trouble started again!
Went to town ok. Started to come home and again NO POWER!
I am going to check plugs this afyernoon, it is acting exactly the same as before I found the bad NEW plug. I hope it is the...
Thanks to all that have tried to help. Believe me, we were very frustrated with this trouble and our inability to find the cause. However I think we have it fixed.
We tried the gov test as we were told. No diff.
I even took the valve cover off and looked for a bad rocker, or something...
Thanks for your help with this. I am going to go try this now. Since I am disconnecting those lines at the carb, won't it suck air into the system and effect it's operation. That is what I was meaning may need capped?
This truck has ran fine just the way it is for years. I do not understand...
Will disconnecting the two lines effect the spark advance?
And, when I dissconnect the two lines do I need to cap them at the carb?
I am not understanding this system at all?
We have a standard transmission in this truck, not the original one. Do I even need a governor??
