    Titling a truck in Colorado?

I ran into some headaches at the El Paso County DMV when trying to get plates for a M101 trailer. It looks like things have changed since the last time I got plates for a military trailer. To get a homemade plate, you now need a "roadworthy" + VIN inspection + statement of assembly. The...

    923A2 at Ft Carson

It would be nice if GL would give a longer lead time on auctions. If you knew that something cool was coming up in the next few months, preparations could be made. I didn't even know the military was sending 900A2 series trucks to surplus.

    923A2 at Ft Carson

Did anyone happen to see what the closing price was for the two 923A2 trucks at Ft Carson? It closed today (8/11/11) at 3pm MST.

Good Cheap Lift for the M1009

The rear shackle flip can be done using new mounts from ORD or Sky Manufacturing if looks are a concern. I am a believer in function over form so I use the flip with beefed up mounts. I don't add-a-leaves+blocks because of the stiffer ride and axle wrap. To each his own

Good Cheap Lift for the M1009

I have an even cheaper 4" lift with no add a leaves or lift blocks! Use a pair of M1009 rear springs in the front with relocated mounting bracket and longer rear chackle. In the rear simply cut the bottom of the rear spring hangar cut a hole and flip the shakle. This will give you about 4"...

    Building Roll Cage for CUCV

I still can't get over the flame paint job! That is very cool! I will be building an external cage on my M1009 using 4130 alloy 2" X .120" tube. It is expensive but it is much lighter and stronger than comparable low-carbon sched 40/80 pipe. I believe it is what SCORE class 3 racers use. To...

    The M1009's at auction

If you have a means to tow a M1009 from a GL site, by all means bid. Set your max bid based on the assumption that: 1) The truck in the photos may not be the actual truck 2) More forklift damage will happen to the truck 3) Parts will be missing that were present in the photo 4) The GL site is...

Question about a possible Alternative fuel.

I worked with 5606 and 83282 when I was in the USAF and I believe some of these fluids had fire-suppresant additives. Look up the MSDS on the 5606 to be certain.

    Inspect M1009 at Santa Fe

Is anyone around Sante Fe that can inspect the M1009 that is coming up on GL? I can see it is missing batteries, rear taillight, and the rear window but I bet there is more missing. Thanks

M1009 into a nice daily driver.

The stock cab on a K5/M1009 will NOT save you in a rollover. For rollbar specs, look up the SCORE off road racing website and see what class a 5000lb blazer would race in (class 7 4x4 I think). The last time I looked it called for something like .120 wall X 2" dia 4130 tubing for the cage...

    My M1009 in Flames.

I like the "pimp my ride" themed CUCV... Why stop there? You need some carc spinner rims!

M1009 into a nice daily driver.

The first thing I would do for better safety is add a rollbar/rollcage. Next I would add shoulder belts for the back seat (now that there is a cage to mount them to). If there was any steel tubing left over after the rollcage build, I would build a prerunner-style brushguard. This would act...

M1009 into a nice daily driver.

If you are trying to get a pitman arm to loosen it's death grip on the steering box output shaft, try the torch. Last time I had the same problem so I heated up the arm and used a air-chisel with a pickle fork attachement. It came right off.

    Don't Run into Rocks

I would leave it bolted with grade 8 bolts. The shear strength of those bolts should hold up fine. I would leave this as the weakest link (if it actually is) as it is easier to repair than a bent spindle/axle/???
