MilitaryRestoration, where did you get your seals from? I have a 817 that needs doing, and seeing your post makes me want to get mine done now. Would a 3" peice of pipe be ok to tap them in place, or did your dad have a special tool for this?
What are you using for straps? Did you make them yourself, or did you buy them commercially? That is one thing I don't have, is the matching straps and rigging to do the job right.
I have my 816 insured with State Auto out of Columbus Ohio. The agent could not find a manufacturer listed as General Products Division, so she listed it under the farm policy.I pay $523. for the whole year, but that is with buildings also.
Does anyone have pictures of the whiffletree pins? I got a whiffletree from Army Surplus of Doge City, and it did not come with the pins. I think I can make them if I knew the length and diameter of the pin. Looks like there might be a piece of drill rod welded on top to keep them from backing...
At first I thought you were talking about a 813,comparing both cargo trucks. But it sounds like you know what the 818 is. I own both and would take the deuce over the 818. It's smaller for trail riding, uses less fuel, and you can haul things. Smaller turning radius when you drive through town...
Andy, looks like all the parts are there. The two GL guys are very helpful in helping you get it off the lot. I wish all my trucks had those XL's I love em. Good score!
A lot of the new fire trucks around here have swiched from red to a brite green, the kind seen on construction worker vests. This can be seen good at night also.
I have not received a title from GL having filed it in Nov and one every month since then. They know they have the monopoly on this, and there is nothing much you can do to them about it. The county I live in has a $25. wheel tax per vehicle ,so I am not protesting to loudly.
Glad to see you made it through the bad weather ok. Did yours have strange looking batteries in them? Iv'e never seen those NATO batteries before. Now I need a tan lowboy and I'll be all set. What kind of trailer are you and your dad looking for?
Well flea I tend to like the 3 color paint scheme. All the military trucks I have are painted that way except one, and that is an all tan 818. If you paint the top tan, you'll have a truck representing several different wars by the looks of things. Paint it, then show us what it looks like then...
I sence something is going on as I have not received any SF97's since Sept. Has anyone recieved one lately? Maybe they were told not to issue any more titles. I tried to purchase every thing I could last year, just in case Clinton gets elected. If we can't get the SF97's we'll have to get them...
I agree with rosco, you can get them all day long at any hardware store. The front winch drain plug on the 816 was buggered up. I think it was around 59 cents or so, they had both the 1/2" socket wrench and the 9/16" octagon allen wrench ones.
Andy, I picked up mine on the 11th and had no problems on the 90 mi. trip to the barn. I passed 3 state and 6 county police cars on the way ,and they showed no concern. Neal (the GL guy) will not have you sign off till your trucks start. They should start with just a couple rpm. Mine fired off...
Good find FMJ, I never had a problem with the EUC's as such. I'm having a problem with the SF97's. One is as far back as the second week in November. Anybody else?
