yes a valve on the bottom would allow you to drain it - the 1/2" tap is usually close to one end. The tank should be pitched so that is the low side. Usually you can achieve that with adjusting how much the tank legs are screwed in.
At our old house I had 2 tanks twinned together for our heating...
I know I'm late to the party on this interesting thread (also haven't posted on the forum in years) but I would like to throw a comment in about your oil tank setup.
You are correct that by dropping a line in from one of the 2" bungs using a double tapped bushing will allow you to keep your oil...
We live in the woods and field mice are part of the deal. I put Decon boxes throughout the garage including inside the base of my MEP-003A. Never had a problem with mice in there. Tonight in the middle of this nor'easter I went into the garage to put my long snow boots on and instinctively...
All's well that ends well! My son got a new lug for the stud end of the cable and put it on this afternoon. When I came home I reset the panel circuit breaker and it fired up perfectly. I'm guessing now that the reason it kept popping was that it never really cooled off when I kept trying to...
So yesterday in the nor'easter we had here in CT the power went off. Yippee, I get to use the genset. All good, starts right up and I go back playing ham radio. Fast forward 30 minutes and the power goes out. Genset is stopped. I know there is plenty of fuel. I get a flashlight and start looking...
lol- I guess the easy answer is load it to 10% capacity or less.
After the first 6 hours the only heavy load was our zone of ac (2 ton, high efficiency), that ran very infrequently. Most of the time after 9 the load was pretty insignificant.
and a followup
When we went to bed last night the power was still out at 11 (from 3pm). Because I do daily home dialysis with a machine that needs power I just left the genny running all night. I just raised the thermostats on the other 2 zones so they wouldn't be calling for cooling & left...
I thought it would be a snow or ice storm that would finally give me an opportunity to fire up the 003A for real.
Today it was 90 & super humid and the expected thunderboomers came through. Boy did they ever! This tree is right around the corner from our house and has been down for over 3 hours...
I have a chance to pick up this genset VERY cheaply. The owner tells me something shorted out in the generator itself. Taking his word for that, I am having a hard time finding the part number for the generator section. . . My manual doesn't show it :( and searching through the manual here was...
