    Charging mystery

Ian, In a previous thread relating to M1010 (which is the same set up as my M1028) charging issues, you mentioned an alternative to installing a battery equalizer would be changing the top 24v alternator to a 12 volt. That seems like a simple fix. I don't need a lot of power. Why wouldn't I...

    Charging mystery

Thanks alot guys. First, I'm going to try a different battery. Then the connections and DC ammeter.

    Charging mystery

OK, I'll try that. But, what explains why the battery is dead after driving while the system is supposedly charging. I literally turn the truck off, then immediately attempt to turn it over and it's dead. It seems that the battery is not charging, despite all the indications that it is.

This is the new battery. It has been drained and boosted several times.

    Charging mystery

My 86 M1028 front battery is not charging. This model has the Duvac 'blue box'. So far, both batteries, belts and Duvac box have been replaced. The auto electric 'expert' tells me it is charging properly at 14.4 volts and maybe the belts should be tightened (then why is it charging properly?). I...

    More %#@! Electrical problems

M1028 still not charging OK, so in addition to the new batteries and belts, I replaced the duvac 'blue box'. The mechanic says I am now getting a consistent 14.4 volts. Great, but the front battery is still not charging and drains daily. What the #$@%! Any more ideas would be appreciated...

    Canadian m1010 auction feb 13

There is a nice looking CDN M1010 up for auction north of Toronto this weekend. 32k kilometres, which is roughly 19k miles. Here is the the link: www.ntva.ca When you access the site, go to the run list and look in the 'Equipment' section. There are several photos. This auction is under...

    Radiators

Thanks guys. My M1028 rad has a small leak, gotta replace it at some point. But...they want $800 up here. So, I figured I'd wait for a deal. There is a new M1009 rad for sale on eBay that will probably be a lot less. Any thoughts on the exchange?

    Radiators

Can anybody confirm that the radiator for the M1009 is the same for the M1008/M1028?

    I'll do that. Thanks brother.

    More %#@! Electrical problems

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. If it's meant to be connected, it should be connected. I'm no mechanic myself, but trying to find a tech that understands these trucks up in the Great White North ain't easy. Trial and error has been the process so far.

    More %#@! Electrical problems

I recently installed 2 new batteries on my 1986 m1028. Blew some fuses and my two new headlights. Turns out the system was providing 17-18 volts. My mechanic disconnected a wire from the regulator(?) on my upper alternator. He said it was then charging fine. As time went on, the accessories...
