I checked the forum every few months. Nothing. If somebody had been even curious a dialog would have started. All that ever appeared were some posts about thin-skin vehicles like the above. I have to assume there is no market for replacement M-41 pads. If you look back you may find the...
Thanks for the note on M548 pads. They have been available for many years. To my knowledge they have no similarity to M-41 pads. 2-part urethane products have serious issues with adhesion to the old pad shoe as well as durometer and tensile strength. Several people have tried 'recapping' and...
The first prototype modified Bradley pad is done. Fits nicely into our spare track shoe (off the LF fender of the M-41). I will be doing several pre-production pads shortly and taking photos. User will reuse present securing nut. I have over a thousand NOS Bradley pads to work with. No more...
OK We sliced the corners off the Bradley track pad It fits well and looks acceptable in our M-41A1. We are now getting a special adapter nut made to secure it in the M-41/family track segments. Will advise as project advances. We are acquiring Bradley pads in 200 lots. Final product should...
I am convinced that just playing a acetylene torch on the back of the shoe will melt/release the old rubber block, but may make a big stink. Heat needed to release rubber will be far below that which will damage the steel backing.I guess the time has come to do some genuine experimentation...
There is a WORLD of difference between half-track bands and heavy molded blocks. As I pointed out in my letter, in order to remould any track blocks you first must remove the old rubber. Rubber compound formulation can be determined by the original or current Mil Spec. Please examine some...
OK We have a M-41A2 with rubber chevrons worn flush to the cleats/grousers. Years of research reveals NOTHING available anywhere at any price. I submitted a worn sample to the leading construction vehicle shoe maker but they decline to enter production for a few hundred 'orphan' parts. They...
I understand that in certain duty stations in Germany and Korea they installed 24V sump heaters powered by the APU. That sort of thing might be dead-easy to install...even in 115 or 230. I bet you will find the access cover for installing a heater directly in the sump. Our MTU 538s would not...
Just curious...Do you have hulls for your 1790 packs? I drove M-47 as a teenager at an Army Reserve armory, 1959. The unique 'side-stick' steering is memorable. The thing has some WEIGHT. We have a nice M-41 here and it has become (after lots of hours work) a treat to drive. A great...
Right you are!
I just assumed they had to get all power possible out of the 1790 as they did the 895. Only the late injected 1790 had the supercharger. Do you know these Stromberg carbs are also on the GAA? Mags also, I believe.
All are fabulous engines...nothing in the world like them. And...
The big Continental air-cooled gas engines are 895 (opposed 6) or 1790 (V-12) All 1790s are crankshaft-drive centrifugal supercharged. Some 895s are natural single carb.
I've had my hands on these machines a bit. Before installing a mag spin it up with a power drill. If no fire, it is usually the magnets. After many years they lose and must be recharged. Many aircraft mag shops can recharge these units. Condenser must be checked and of course points, but...
I am doing a nasty AOS895 (second one) but it may run one day, SOON. I am discovering that many AV1790 parts are similar and can be adapted. 895 parts are just about evaporated, though I will chat with Red River. The 895 is looking sharper after 30 MH and I have the special 'barring' tool...
