    Replace or Rebuild M1028 axle?

Its a 14 bolt with a Detroit locker, used in all 73-87 1 ton non duallys and all 3/4tons 73-80 and heavy duty 3/4tons 81-87. Parts are plentiful, I would take it apart and rebuild it or send it to a shop that can. Be careful when ordering parts, remember cheaper means china, china means crap...

    M1008 or M1028

When I bought my M1028 off of Craigslist, it was listed as an M1008. Looked in the door jamb, had the same numbers as you plus the other giveaways such as heavier rear springs and I could tell there had been a communications box in the back instead of the wooden seats. All M1028s had the 208...

poor quality lift pumps, any good ones still being made?

I ended up getting the GM factory acdelco lift pump for a late 80s/early 90s 6.2/6.5 diesel, it was $63 on Amazon. Installed it today and it sounds like it pumps harder and faster than the previous Airtex. Also made in the USA. We'll see how long this one lasts. At least I know its for a 6.2

poor quality lift pumps, any good ones still being made?

Hey guys, I have an Airtex E8153 on my M1028. I removed the mechanical pump when I installed a Banks turbo. My issue is the lift pump quit after a month. When it was working you can here it building pressure before starting. One day it just quit pumping. Truck runs but it blows white smoke...

Gear vendors and drive train loading

I agree with usmcgunner. I installed a GV 3 months ago and it was worth every penny. I can split three gears, shifting is firm and as seamless as the Allison auto in my dads Duramax. The 400 and GV can both handle tremendous amounts of hp, way more than a 6.2 can produce. As mentioned by...

    Want To Swap my np208 for a 205 -

This info may help. 1977-1985 th400 chevy 205s have a short female 32 spline input. The adapter has a figure 8 pattern and the crossmember bolts to the bottom of the frame. The 77-85 th400 has a long output shaft to match the short female input on the 205. At some point in 1985 GM switched...

    Battery relocation with turbo

You'll have to go to a salvage yd and get a pass. side civy battery tray out of a 81-87 pickup or 81-91 'Burb or Blazer.. That's what I did when I put the turbo on mine. It puts the front battery along the fender to get the clearance necessary.

    700r4 for my M1028???

I like the 700r4 but I would definitely rebuild it and do the updates before installing it. My Dad bought a 1983 Chevy 4x4 with a 6.2 & 700r4 brand new, and we had numerous problems the with trans, losing overdrive a few times and 3rd gear once. This was when the truck was less than 5 yrs old...

    1986 M1031 4L80E Swap Question

I thought about the idea of a 4L80E until I realized what a nightmare the wiring would be, plus trying to find the right T-case adapter and for a decent price. GM switched from the figure 8 racetrack pattern to the round in '85 and also changed the crossmember from a flat one that bolted on the...

New to CUCVs and need help deciding

M1028-LSD front, Detroit locker rear and 9,200 GVWR. M1008 has an open front diff, same Detroit locker in rear. does not have the extra helper spring on rear spring pack thus the GVWR is less something like 8500 or 8600. Without trying to be more confusing, everything else is essentially the...

Chevy Blazer M1009 CUCV turbo upgrade

I ordered a sidwinder turbo kit directly from Banks and installed it in my M1028 last week. Kit was $2,286 shipping included. Pricey yes, but the power upgrade is unbelievable. The kit is high quality and has everything you need, except I had to go to a junkyard and get a front civy battery...

M1028 Banks turbo and GV overdrive install in progress....

I also installed new GPs and new marine injectors from SSDiesel. I also got the special 30mm socket for the injectors, glad I did since it would be very easy for a normal socket to slip and break off the return nipples. Hope to get the turbo, exhaust, block heater, and electric fuel pump down...
