Got everything buttoned back up with the retrosound radio. Looks great and sounds good. While I was at it and had the funding I changed to the factory windshield with the built in antenna. That part works better than expected, reaches a radio station that only more modern setups can usually...
Is it normal with these for there to be a lower-moderately loud pop from the relay when you turn the key after ignition with this? Im talking after the glow plug light shuts off and you go to turn the starter.
I should add that the truck starts right up with no issues, just has a new sound...
Ha.
Finished. Followed the guide plus the rubber covers and it started up first time no problem. Wife says it sounds stronger, seemed about the same to me though.
Covers were 3/16 size, they worked fine for the ground and 12v once I trimmed the little tab things off. They almost didn't fit for...
Excellent, thanks! I think i can finish this before work.
Definitely plan on being careful. I may not know much about electricity, but I have learned the mechanical process of soldering new connectors and doing heatshrink.
The exposed metal surrounded by metal worried me too. Electrical...
Obligatory "Sorry I know next to nothing about electricity" pre-excuse.
Got everything together for doing the doghead starter relay mod proper tomorrow. I know the original relay can stick on and all kinds of bad things can happen. Its gotta go, no question about that. In fact mentioning this...
Ah, I didn't word that very well. An example of what I was trying to say is if I'm going 40, then slow down to 27 or so to make a gentle curve, then get back on the throttle the truck stays in 3rd and bogs down instead of downshifting. In that situation I've been manually shifting to 2nd and...
Sorry to necro here a bit.
Cucvrus, you mentioned something about an electric switch near the pedal that causes the th400 to downshift that piqued my curiosity. Is there a proper name for that component? Mine might be broken based on how the truck doesn't like coming out of 3rd/2nd unless I'm...
Oh, one last thing. I'm sure the audio shop I plan on having install the system has worked with square body chevys in the past, but I'm not certain they've ever messed with a cucv with its wonky electrical system. I know there exists a diagram that iirc shows that theres an open spot for a 12v...
Thanks for the input! On your glowing recommendation I think I'll go with the RetroSound instead. I almost went with the laguna until I saw the Hermosa has usb capabilities, which I assume is able to charge a cell phone. I like the looks of this unit better than the first one I found too since...
I'm almost a novice when it comes to things audio and electrical. I did find someone capable of installing "Whatever I bring in" as what they had in house was too techy/aftermarket looking for my tastes. I noticed the dash in the 1009 has 3 holes in it for speakers from the factory, 2x 3.5...
Tried to find a thread talking about what I'm planning and came up short. All the threads are about making a new camo pattern where there wasnt one before or what kind of paint to use. Neither of those are questions I have.
So my truck has been looking kinda faded since I got it. I have the tri...
Should make a massive difference with interior noise as well. If everythings more or less functional you don't need to scream to talk to your passengers on the freeway.
My seals were all junk when I first got the truck, it was like trying to talk to someone next to a jet before I replaced them.
Good partially related protip with the M1009/Blazer and probably Suburban tailgates since cucvrus mentioned cracks in an earlier post, the latches are designed to work far better than you would expect from an old Chevy truck. The cracks up top develop from people slamming the tailgates. Try...
So I made the 2nd version of the intake. This time using rubber plumbing adapters and more hose clamps instead of tape and swearing to hold the rig together. Added plus is that it's a lot easier to take on and off now. Made a rain deflector out of an old battery box I had laying around and JB...
