Well, that's the city of Port Arthur for you. Those stupid rules apply, even if you live down in Sabine Pass, where no one cares.
I went with standard Monroe Gas Magnums on my 1008 & 1031. The price was right. The ride was suitable for a short chassis pickup like that.
I just acquired a 1028A3...
Now that was a fun event. I have never been to such a thing. We'll have to keep that on the annual "to do" list. It was great meeting y'all and spending some time with you at the off road park and the museum.
I'll bring a few sets of troop seats for the M1008s and a medium/ heavy duty tow bar, in case anyone gets a wild hare and decides they can't live without it.
I plan on attending and will rolling up in an '86 M1028 SECM. A friend of mine will be coming with me with his M1008, along with another friend of mine from Galveston with another M1008. The swap meet sounds like fun, along with milling through all the things that feed my green sickness. I have...
Well I must say that I'm very interested in attending. I know several people around here who have MV's and aren't necessarily on Steel Soldiers. I may be able to round one up to bring his rig too. Since I sold the deuce and both M1009s, it looks as though the SECM M1031 or the desert M1008 are...
I have personally run a set of the Treadwright retread tires on my Tahoe. They lasted 50,000 miles before I sold them. They were good tires and I never had a flat. I've also had good luck with the Cordovan Mud Claw on my F250 and F350. The M1008 and M1031s are running Firestone Transforce AT...
Dana 44s
It sounds like this swap will be more of a temporary fix. Based on limited funds, I see no reason to fun from it. It's not like you're scrapping the original drive train. I've got a '76 K20 that has stayed overloaded for 30+ years. It has a Dana 44HD with external mount hubs. I believe...
My 1028 and 1008 stayed hooked up to livestock trailers and float trailers, respectively. The 24' livestock trailer can hold about 9 or 10 of our Angus bulls, or 13 cows. That's about 19,500 gross combination weight. The float trailer holds approximately 20 4'x5' round bales. The trailer by...
I saw this exact truck on Craigslist in Spring, TX. I would say it is a little on the high side for its condition. I paid way less than that for mine, which was in substantially better condition. I think he's got it listed for $4500. So you must have worked him down a little. If it were a little...
Get it
I vote that you get one. What do you have to lose? If you had experience with one in the service and like the nostalgia, go for it.
You'll get an education working on it. Lord knows I did with the four I've acquired over time.
You only live once. If it turns out to be a rotten idea...
If you would like to see some in person, Glockamolie, I'm about 100 miles to the east of you on Interstate 10. You could look at an M1009, M1008, and an M1031 with an SECM. The only one I'd consider dumping is the M1009, at this point.
Orange, TX is on the Gulf Coast at the Texas/Louisiana border. Rain (Rather, lack of) was never a problem until last year. We're getting plenty, this year.
