loose pre cup in redecked head. Is this a problem?

Yeah these guys machined the cups separately from the heads. I'll call them tomorrow and see if the can knurl the cup in question. I get what you're saying about them moving which I could imagine may eventually cause a blown head gasket. I would attempt to peen the cup but am worried that I...

loose pre cup in redecked head. Is this a problem?

I had a head redecked recently and I noticed one of the pre cups is loose and can be removed with my fingers. I'm guessing they put them back in the head in no particular order and one ended up in a different hole. I'm not thinking this will be a problem as its still sitting about .002" above...

its below zero now. Will I have problems getting my new head gaskets to seal?

its below zero now. Will I have problems getting my new head gaskets to seal? I'll be putting the engine back together this weekend or next and I am concerned with the dropping temps (negative teens next week) that I might not be able to get my felpro head gaskets to seal up well. The heads have...

6.2 runs away on warm ups using high idle...

Just note that TM's like Chiltons only tell you what to do and rarely give suggestions on how to do it when things aren't going right. For example when it came to bleeding my fuel injection pump the only warning was to not run the starter more than 10 seconds at a time. What it didn't tell me...

What size do you guys reccomend opening up the coolant passages in your head gaskets?

No I did not have my block or heads decked last time nor will I have my block decked this time as it is financially impractical to have it done right now. I do find the info on letting the truck run a minute before driving off. I always wait until the after glow cycle is complete before driving...

Will coolant in the combustion chamber cause fuel and oil to not burn on start up?

I learned my lesson about cutting corners on just installing as is heads. However on the other hand I have always used new TTY bolts. I will be chasing my head bolt holes this time since they are pretty crudded up and once I am confident my head gaskets have sealed up tight (a tank of fuel) I...

Will coolant in the combustion chamber cause fuel and oil to not burn on start up?

The coolant passages are very rusty. How do I clean that off from the remaining good head? Is something like evaporust a good product to use? https://www.evaporust.com/cooling-system-cleaner

What size do you guys reccomend opening up the coolant passages in your head gaskets?

yes and no. The last head cracked in the rear most intake valve seat but it was on a completely different engine and I make the stupid mistake of advancing the fuel timing because I wasn't getting enough power when I replaced the IP with a reman. This time the IP was timed correctly and the...

What size do you guys reccomend opening up the coolant passages in your head gaskets?

The last time I changed my heads I opened up my head gasket coolant passages before putting in the heads. The theory was that I would get better coolant flow and prevent a cracked head. I ended up with another cracked head anyway about 15000 miles later. I didn't open them up much but I don't...

6.2 runs away on warm ups using high idle...

My original solenoid was frozen and never worked. When I swapped my engine the replacement had a working one on it. I think it needs to be adjusted. The current one wont turn when I put a screwdriver to it and I wasn't wanting to force anything. Am I correct in assuming that it screws in and out?

Will coolant in the combustion chamber cause fuel and oil to not burn on start up?

An oil gauge and a temp gauge might not be bad ideas. I know how to do the oil pressure gauge install but I'm not sure if I can just unplug the lead to the current temp gauge on the front drivers side head and just plug in lead for the temp gauge I would install. I don't imagine the stock...

Will coolant in the combustion chamber cause fuel and oil to not burn on start up?

One head with two cracks. The block and heads appeared flat enough based on the residue from the felpro head gaskets I used which had full coverage on the entire head and block deck surfaces.

Will coolant in the combustion chamber cause fuel and oil to not burn on start up?

The bottom end has about 38000 miles on it and generally speaking I baby it much to the chagrin of other drivers. My first issues appeared last winter when I made the ill-fated decision to switch to 10w30 full synthetic for the winter and was burning a quart every 300 miles. very quickly oil...

How prone to cracking are the main bearing webs when removing the main cap bolts?

I haven't yet because I'm scared for what I will find. I really cant afford a new block right now or the down time to do anything about it. The engine was running fine before the head cracked but I know that doesn't mean anything.

How prone to cracking are the main bearing webs when removing the main cap bolts?

I don't know if this is it but there is a number 177 cast into the block.
