Installed the new cable this afternoon. Its a perfect fit - didn't need to adjust it at all, although there is plenty of room for adjustment. Its really smooth, especially compared to the old cable which was pretty tore up (photos above). I can tromp the throttle and it immediately drops...
I found Control Cables Inc. doing an internet search. Emailed and they quickly replied asking for photos of the original cable ends. Said they could probably do the job so I sent the original in. Then talked with Ed on the phone. Friendly service and quick turn around time. Here is the...
I haven't pulled it out yet. Doesn't look too bad but I don't want to have one of those "can't stop" experience some have described here. Summit has the ATP cable which is supposed to be 39 inches. Autozone has the Pioneer cable but that one is rumored to be too short as well...
Throttle cable is frayed between the pedal linkage and the fire wall... and on the IP end.
Bought one from Napa and one from AutoZone and neither one fits... Anyone willing to make a few bucks on their extra OEM ones, let me know.
I topped off the radiator and let it burp a while and its blowing hot air again - at least while idling in the driveway. Maybe that "Coolant Low" light really means its low...
Top radiator hose never got hot. Might need a thermostat yet? Or maybe need to test it out on the highway first...
Probably coincidence. No - he was just hauling stuff to the dump. But you know how it is - other folks don't know the quirks of the truck.
I'll start by checking the heater door position, then I'll clean the core. I'm also thinking thermostat. It gave pretty good heat a month or so ago so...
Looking for solutions to my sticky throttle and wanted to confirm 14038644 is correct for an '84 M1028. Most info I see indicates its for '85 and newer.
I realize that finding one might not be so easy, but if one turns up, it would be nice to know its right. Thanks.
Curious if there was any resolution to your issue. I am having the same problem. Can't remember if it was a problem before I put the turbo on a few years ago. Seems like its getting worse.
***Not finding this but I'm sure its been covered before. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.***
I loaned the M1028 to a friend and they moved the lever from Hot to Cold and now the heater only blows cold air. I checked the linkage from the lever to the heater and that much is...
The throttle is sticky when the engine is cold. I'll give it some throttle to get up the driveway and then it'll want to keep going - revs up pretty high when I put it in park. I have to pop the hood and manually pull the throttle lever forward so it'll idle down. Seems like that solenoid...
Update: The starter had gone bad - probably all of the extra cranking. I did the Doghead relay upgrade while I was at it. Tightened a loose fuel line which was allowing the fuel to drain down from the engine. It might have been letting air in as well 'cause it's running smooth now. Still...
Finally found time to crawl under the truck:
-Glow plugs are getting 12 volts.
-Starter solenoid is clicking when the ignition is turned.
-Starter motor is getting a constant 25+/- volts from the Pos. Term.
-Starter motor and starter cable are warm to the touch.
I turned the IP back 1/8th turn so we're at 1/8th turn total increase from the pre-install setting. It seemed better. EGT's were staying lower. It still surged and sputtered a little but better than before. Might need to turn it down a little more yet.
I thought the idle was a little high...
New vacuum hoses are in place and it shifts like a champ. Its never shifted so smooth! Thanks Rich. Still idling rough and I'm getting close to max EGT's hauling an empty truck up hill so I'm gonna back the IP off a little and see if that fixes it.
