No modern diesels that I know of use air to water intercoolers.. the pump can fail. Not a good idea... Intercoolers help make more power by lowering the intake air temp. The only time it works well is in drag racing when you can have the second heat exchanger in a bucket of ice and do it run...

ooops put a big intercooler and watch max RPMs.. make sure the oil has 1200-1500 ppm ZDDP

watch those rpms.. the rod cap and bolts often affect max rpm..

If you can fine some rod bolts or studs that are upgrades and get the pan off.. could be a worth while upgrade!

Stock holset and the borg warner turbos the dodge guys upgrade to are very efficient.... Spool fast lots of cool boost relative to other turbos.. it isn't going to be cool at higher boost levels.. If cranking up the pump you may want supplemental fuel supply to the pump.. with new efficient...

Now the drive train may be another issue. I can't seem to find a good replacement transmission for one of these locally yet... I think they may not like the extra torque.... That is another discussion.. being an SAE 2 bellhousing with an SAE 3 adapter stock the heavier duty transmission out...

:deadhorse: I think we can all agree that rpm can kill a multifuel engine or most diesels in general. The stock turbo is a choke point for power and egts... Doubling the average force on a piston through higher boost only increases the max force on the power stroke 20%. Has anyone looked...

Sounds like fuel system somewhere.. It may take someone who knows these engines 10 minutes of adjustment to get this thing running right or... Fluids and filters always a good idea in my book on a "new" used vehicle. Doubt it is a plugged filter or fuel/water separator, but I don't know these...

So it only dies warm while idling after you've come to a stop or shifting from park to drive?

We didn't take pictures.. it was basically a spider of small metal tubes with T's and distribution blocks... tested with air over hydraulic with a few different fluid viscosity and pressures to simulate the fluid warming up etc.. You don't want to ever starve anything else of oil.. careful...

Ah did I say that backwards? You need to run power constantly to the fuel shut off solenoid to stay running maybe.. :-) Get a good relay and a switch wired in.. have a manual fuel on / off switch..

Your post turbo EGT probe would worry me.. It could be higher before the turbo. Making your own head gasket involves using the stock one as a template. I've used thick copper gaskets and stainless steel to lower compression on a motor. I usually emboss the copper around coolant and oil...
