Never done it in a HMMWV: a lot of the trail is pretty easy. If you go it clockwise you really dont even need 4x4. If you do it counterclockwise low-range is helpful on some of the steeper climbs. May be a few spots that the Tamarisk will leave pinstripes, but nothing crazy!
Just remember to...
I always disconnect the negative on the battery. (when i actually remember) Done lots of welding/ fab with it connected and disconnected, never had problems either way.
'Aint a darn thing wrong with a good old High-lift! Just don't be stupid with it. Lifting all 4 wheels off the ground at the same time with only Highlifts would fall into that category. I would lift one end, toss jack stands under it then lift the other end. Only then would I take off any wheels...
I ended up welding nuts to mine. They were really tight and came right off after they cooled. Makes sense if they had thread-lock on them..................
I haven't seen that door offering before! Thanks for posting that up!
Don't you love that there are 150 extra holes in these rigs, but none of them seem to line up?
I have done it with the wheels in the air, and once with turn plates. Both did the job, YMMV
(My turn plates are just 2 pieces of VCT tile with grease between them, they work surprisingly well!)
Man that is some serious fabrication! I love builds like this!
I have considered fabbing up some lower control arms that mimic Marlin Crawlers' RCLT lower arms. Its been awhile since I have built control arms though.....
I am considering centering the front diff so I can carry 1 spare axle shaft instead of 3.
With my era of Jeeps a common part failure was the Crank Position Sensor (CPS). Its tiny and has saved the day more than once! What are some common parts to fail while out on the trail that would be...
In for the updates!
I have driven 90s Jeeps for the last two decades. I have whittled that toolkit down so it fits in a tiny 7.62 ammo can. I am quickly finding that it is inadequate for a HMMWV!
Typically, when repairing something, I note the tools I used and make sure I have them in the...
Woundnt supprise me if there was some sort of sealant on the threads that is holding it up (mine was held in with red-loctite) I had to use heat to get mine our
Good point. I have tested all the circuts and they are working as planned. (once I take care of the missing injector return line, and add diesel it should be a runner again)
I am not at all concerned about using plastic housing. A metal housing being conductive every where seems like a bigger...
Been replicating kboy's/ TOBASH's diagrams. Thanks a million for posting all this info up!
Background: My smart start box was sitting on the floorboard and the harness was chopped instead of being disconnected when I picked it up from Yermo:mad: I brought all all the chopped wires ends into a...
