Well I pretty much got all the wiring done for the GVOD. I got all the wiring under the truck insulated with some plastic conduit and taped them up leading to the hole. I used a 3M command metal hook to hold up wire going to the transfer case for 4x4 lockout. I used the metal hook, but swapped the weak tape for T-Rex super strong weatherproof double sided tape. That thing ain’t coming off lol.

All the wire enter the cab nicely under the seat. I decided to use the T-Rex to mount the control box to the back of the cab, and then connected all the wires right there. For ground I just used a self tapper behind the seatbelt. For the power I ran a wire under the plastic door trim and routed it with the seatbelt buzzer wire clamps.

Now all that’s left is to mount the foot and dash switch. The wiring on the dash switch is pretty short so I’m going to have to extend it. I think they figured people are going to mount their control box in the dash so they make that harness pretty short. The end of the harnesses terminate into telephone jacks to plug into the box. I figured I could just use a phone jack coupler and another phone cord to extend the wires like we did in the old days with our house phones. The only issue is the phone jack in the dash switch harness is a 6 conductor RJ12 style. Standard phone jacks have only 4 conductors and are a bit smaller. These 6 conductor cords are not something you can find at the store as they’re not really standard. So I had to order it from Amazon and it won’t be here until tomorrow.

For reference here is a picture of the 6 conductor RJ12 connector on the dash switch harness.

I don’t wanna start my complaining again, but it would be nice if they threw in some extensions in the kit lol. I may just plug the harness in behind the seat temporarily and short the switch wires out to take it out for a test drive.

I will report back!

I made some jumpers to short the harnesses for the foot switch and the dash switch, which is basically as if the foot switch was engaged and the dash switch was set to automatic mode. I took it out for a test drive and wow, I have a 4 speed now 😂

The truck will shift into 3rd and then right at 40-45 the OD will kick on and the motor relaxes. It will be nice once I have the floor switch installed to be able to turn it off to accelerate and then kick it on once I get to a little higher speed because the truck kinda drags ass in overdrive to speed up from 40mph, but it’s not too bad. I kinda wanna try to head out ASAP so I put the dash back together and I’m just gonna leave the connections jumped to be in auto mode full time for now.

Good to hear that all your hard work and diligence has come to fruition. Yeah 40 to 45 is a little to slow for 4th gear, but since most of your trip will be at highway speeds. you'll be lovin it. Nicely done. Yeah, that is one thing I cannot understand why GV continues to use, is that stupid connectors to the control box. That is like '70's tech there. I would think they could upgrade to better connectors but I guess this makes all of their control boxes interchangeable.

Almost to Nebraska. But just my luck… motor seems to have started ticking. I stopped to fill up and when I started the truck it was knocking hard and the truck even shook a little bit. It calmed down and stopped shaking but the knocking is still there. When I put my hand on the fuel lines I can feel the knock, but it seems like it’s on all of them. Maybe an injector is stuck? Truck seems to runs fine besides the noise. Oil level is perfect.

Start eliminating injectors by loosening them up 1 by 1 while running and see if the knock goes away?

Even with the GVO, isn't 80 MPH pushing this engine? What RPMs would that get on your setup?
I will probably have to wait until I get home as I don’t have many tools with me. It’s really only noticeable at idle and low speeds and seems to go away when on the highway. Truck has power and is running good.

Ive been averaging 65-70mph. I maybe hit 80 once or twice momentarily on a downhill stretch of road. I don’t have a tach but RPM doesn’t seem to be very high and I calculated that I’m getting close to 14.5 mpg. I think 65mph with the GVOD is right around where the RPM would be at 45mph stock.

The only thing that sticks out in my mind is that the new injectors I got have denso nozzles instead of Bosch. The shop I bought them from said they were new and they never used them before. Maybe they’re no good… I dunno
I would expect new injectors to at least go more than 1000 miles before having any issues… but then again maybe it’s something else?

If it were me I would add a quart of ATF and check it out from there. The lack of sulfur in diesel does this from time to time. I am not a genius but it worked for me in an m1028 I drove coast to coast. With the stock gearing at 75 mph. I wore ear plugs and still heard crickets and katydids. Good Luck. ATF will clean and lube the system. It never harmed anything for me and I only added it when needed. That knock will scare the bejesus out of you.

I’ve been adding a little bit of diesel kleen every time I fill up but I will add some ATF. I saw the 2 stroke oils at walmart and thought about how you said it’s a must for weed whackers in an old post I saw while researching 😂

When I added the quart of ATF the tank was almost full. I’ve pretty much burned through it all and the knocking is still happening. Not sure what to do for now.

On a side note, I was just passing through Lexington, Nebraska and came up on a military vehicle museum. I pulled in a walked around. Lots of cool stuff there!
