Hello all,

I have the oportunity to bid tomorow on a 1993 m35a2c truck on an auction site.(one on right) I went to look at the truck (a retired fire fighter truck) and saw the fdc is Removed (bypassed also). The part is missing from the IP.
Could it be as ‘simple’ as cutting a piece of metal to cover the ‘hole’ and call it good. Or should I get a replacement fdc and install it. (Eventhough it is bypassed). I went through manual, but do not understand (yet) whether the components inside the fdc still have a function after a bypass.
I am aware of a lot of other issues I might encounter. I have revived three none running m35a2’s in the past, but first time I have this part missing.
Thanks in advance for your insight!

You will see that post #7 addresses it. Your idea seems to be workable. Further down are even some pictures.

Ended up with the 1997 . Left on picture.
Seems like the three trucks were part of the same fleet, but this one did not get converted to fire truck.
Now to arrange pickup, get batteries, push button and “vrooomm”.
I am an optimist😄

Congratulations. I thought production ended in 1988. Your truck probably isn’t a 1997.

If it is a 1987 then it could have the dual circuit brakes if it was an Air Force truck. Looks like a fun project.

Pickup went as good as could be expected. I towed it with another deuce to about half way home when in a sharp corner front tires went in other direction causing right front tire to come of rim and shred. At that point my wife who was steering had enough from the Florida heat, so tow truck option was taken iso side of the road tire change.
All paperwork says it’s a 1997.
Still need to make sense of the numbers to find out. Stock number may indicate it’s a 1977 if I understand what I read going through some posts here. ( It definitally looks faded enough)

Nice score if the price was right! And a recovery needs drama - not too much, just enough, otherwise, what's there to talk about? Any Joe can simply tow a truck home!

Year not known (yet). Engine plate states overhaul 1992?! I am itching to ‘push the button’…
Gave it a good look over the weekend; no immidiate items cause for concern. Engine looks dusty but dry. Cabin heater came off to allow easier access to IP. Fuel shut off lever nice and smooth. Heater free to go to good home.
Airintake has “April 02” written on it and what seems brand new airfilter inside.
Exhaust contains no debris. Tank full with old diesel. Put batteries and had lights (be it not all) and the buzzer, but no humm from the tank.
Drained tank and took pump out.
Second time if find the hose being digested by the diesel, creating a clay like mess. I remember browsing this site years ago when I encountered this the first time and finding what hose is needed for submersible use. Luck has it I bought twice the lenght I needed then to replace it!
Took off pump and put in alcohol to soak (suggestions welcome on what works better).
Hooked up pumpmotor with pump removed and confirmed it runs.

Did not get to pushing the button this weekend, but I learned to not rush things. I had a runaway once and that taught me a good lesson).

Likely to be continued.

your tag indicates truck was built on the 1970 (4-year) contract, and the USA registration number (04E13271) indicates it's a 1971 model year ... that's how these numbers usually work from the late-60's into the early-70's , same as this period of 5-tons .. PS: " General Products Division" of Jeep Corporation did not exist past 1971-72

Leave it to office-types to mess up truck ID's and paperwork , but then again, perhaps they put in what they were given by some yo-yo in the field

In my case, some yo-yo branded my 1953 truck as an AM-General , when it was clearly built 20 years prior AMG's existence ... go figure ,,, and what a mess that was to fix

Thanks for that info msjgd. Good to know. I scratch my head how paperwork like this can move through. My first Deuce in 2018 I could register as an antique. Another one in 2022 I could not because (according to the lady at DMV) it was originally registered by weight???!!! I pay three times more to keep it tagged and insured because of that😠.

Cattlerepairman I hear ye, but 2yrs ago one evening I hastly ‘slapped’ a fuel shut off lever back together without the Jesus clip with almost what you said as result😬. As I was already reading up on this great site, I had a wooden board ready and got the engine to stop.
