    Going to buy wednesday

A ring is somewhat rare, a hole anyone can make with a saber-saw. A hole with nothing else is not a reason to purchase a truck - it's a reason to not purchase that one in particular.

    Wire and Douglas connectors

I think I bought mine from OD Iron.

    Reset at Letterkenny...?

002A's have their place, too; it's nice to have a smaller genset so when the loads are lighter you can run while consuming about half the fuel per hour. Yes, keep them both.

    MEP018 shorted windings..how?

You are correct, Bjorn - it's the phase relationship between the two windings that results in less than 2x voltage. Some loads are rated for this lower voltage, some are not; check your loads to find out. Motors are of prime concern ( as are some transformer powered electronics - but you don't...

    MEP018 shorted windings..how?

If all you've got is an interwinding short, then what Ike suggests is worth investigating. If it ended up with a shorted turn or two in addition to the interwinding short then you're done - and that one is hard to detect with an Ohm meter. It's worthwhile to tear into it and look for heat...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Fired mine up, drove it to the local truck service garage, and got my state inspection taken care of.

    No EUC required on MEPs

You sound much more certain that I ever can when dealing with GL :-)

General Coverage HF/SWL radio for camping

Well, you could also go the GRC-106 route; large, heavy, and about as noisy as you can get with the AM-3349 amplifier section powered up. The exciter is USB/CW/USB+Carrier for AM (and the BFO is always on for receive in AM mode). You can run the exciter by itself (RT-834/RT-662) as a receiver...

    No EUC required on MEPs

That's a nice change; hope it is intentional and not an error.

General Coverage HF/SWL radio for camping

If you can survive with a non-mil radio, then I might recommend something like a FT-817; portable, QRP TX, all mode - HF + 2M and 70cm all mode. Internal battery as well as external 12 VDC power or wall wart. With a good antenna, you can do a lot with it. A wire antenna and a pole for center...

HELP!! installing the rebuilt IP - MEP-002A Refurb Update

A get together is possible here at my place; I'll take a look at the scheduling situation and see if I can come up with a date that would work.

HELP!! installing the rebuilt IP - MEP-002A Refurb Update

Yes, number 1 is next to the blower wheel, Joe.

HELP!! installing the rebuilt IP - MEP-002A Refurb Update

I've not had to time a pump using the alternate method, but I did confirm that mine was timed correctly when I installed it using that method, Joe. You're sure you've timed on compression for #1? I can try to get over there at some point to look at it with you, but I don't have a lot of...

    MEP-017a 240 plug

I'm on Ike's side here; it doesn't cost much to insure safety. Make shift work-arounds have their place - like during an ice storm when you've got no other way to restore power to your house. If you're doing an install to make things plug-and-play in the future then it's worth doing right. It...

    MEP-017a 240 plug

What you need is 240V/3 wire, which the MEP-017A does not do in its stock configuration; it only does 120V/2 wire, and 240V/2 wire without modification. There are threads floating around the board that point out the modification you need to make in order to bring out a neutral connection. The...

    Compressor Wrench

I've got a set of comdiver's compressor wrenches - and they work great. Worth every penny to have them in the truck.

    MEP-002 frequency question

Sorry, missed the point about testing the meter on other gensets in the original post, and only noted you'd tested it off the line power. This is interesting; better test equipment would yield better results. Do you know someone with a scope they can hook up to the genset? Would be nice to see...

    MEP-002 frequency question

If the engine speed isn't bounding around wildly but the external frequency meter is, then it's an artifact of the meter - not the generator going wild. Try what Ike suggests - or use another meter for your measurement.
