Big bang theory?
6vdc and 12vdc units do come specifically for systems "With/resistor" and "Without/resistor".
This difference started appearing on American engines in the late 1940's. The reason for the resistor type coil was to make the engine much easier to start in cold weather.
This was...
As a clarification, I have not dug very deep into the CDL requirements and I am in Virginia. I own an M817 and M35a2.
That said, I understand that the interstate rules say if your registration states GVWR=26000lbs, or more, you have to have a CDL. And air brake endorsement is required at that...

I have been told by the local Detroit Diesel mechanics to use either, in amounts as small as you can to get it to fire, >>only while the starter is turning<<.
They warned me of several severe problems that can be caused by spraying either in and then turning the starter. They were, blowing...
Since this has come up again... I read this site regularly for info on these vehicles. Some of you all are just EMBARRASSING!
Most of you are reasonable and polite. A few don't seem to know how to maintain an air of respectability. However this is grossly disrespectful to the Steel Soldiers web...
The gov't exempts itself form nearly ALL laws it passes to control US!! No surprise there.
The fire depts, of nearly all jurisdictions, are exempt from nearly all liability for any damage they do to anything while trying to stop a fire.
Some people think a fire truck driving on the left side...
The tax is based on the gallons of fuel used but is actually a tax on travel. This is why you pay the tax on aircraft fuel ect. also.
The USA is getting much like the old Soviet Union in this respect.
I have been told, there, you had to have gov't permission (papers?) to travel very far from...
Paint removal
I have not done a lot of paint removal. That said a friend that does this for a living uses "Aircraft coating remover". I tried it and it really gets the job done... now. 2cents2cents
I know arguing with a cop on the side of the highway doesn't always end well but the difference in the smells is dramatic. The viscosity is quite different also.
Used trans oil generally is a different color by the time it is removed from service.
In the end you are still running untaxed fuel...
seal issues?
Automatic transmissions have many seals inside that must work exactly right for the trans to function. Obviously if ATF damaged seals automatic transmissions would be impossible to sell since they would be failing alot.
Typically a trans rebuild is much more expensive than an...
If I remember correctly, US Navy ships used steam pipes at the bottom of the tanks to get enough heat in fast enough to make Bunker fuel flow fairly well.
A secondary heater in the boiler room brought it up to 350-400 degrees.
I was a Boiler technician. 1977.
elected A--holes
It is actually worse than that.
The gov'ts at all levels exempts themselves from nearly ALL the laws they pass! If "We the people" break those SAME laws "We the people" will first be financially destroyed and if they feel we still object to their self appointed power "We the...
May I apologize for the other poster's unnecessary, in your face, attitude.
It is quite rude for him/her to act as though you have committed a personal insult to him/her. Or in some way damaged his/her vehicle. 2cents
This is supposed to be a FRIENDLY blog to exchange info about our vehicles...
Look on ebay. There are batt. cutoff switches that use a simple key for about $10.00 each. With keys. The keys are very cheap, should you lose yours. I think I searched with "caterpillar battery switch". Without the key they are moderately difficult to turn on... but not impossible. Cats are...
In Va. the GVWR can be reduced to the vehicle's empty weight at your request. Been there done that.
However I understand the weigh stations, in Va., will use that spec on the registration to give you an overload ticket.
They apparently don't care about you exceeding the vehicle's designed...
Fashion a box large enough to enclose two, or more, 150 watt flood light bulbs. Switches for each bulb make it "adjustable" for the temp each day. Also no melt down/fire hazard.
Mount so as to have the bulbs shine on the engine from about 1/2 an inch away.
This could be attached with magnets...
I have not opened one of this particular engine.
Generally some adjusters are similar to the V8 chevy in that they are adjusted while the engine is running to the point they stop clicking and then a bit.
And some are adjusted while the engine is stopped.
If your's are adjusted while running...
