    R.I.P--SHOOTINIRON--James Ruman

As sad as this accident is, it is easy to understand how this happened. Many large semi drivers speed constantly on interstate highways and get very impatient and angry when they have to follow someone going much slower than they are and they cannot pass the vehicle. How many times I have been...

    Your Advice Please

The old deuces like mine (1969) are a good example of no nonsense real military vehicle with very few creature comforts and making enough noise that I have to wear earplugs while driving to avoid damaging my hearing. I too have hard time accepting automatic transmissions for any military...

    A3 transmission questions

Can you exceed the engine redline in an M35A3 or does the governor prevent that?

    A3 transmission questions

I have passed several small National Guard convoys here in Florida recently doing close to 65 MPH on I -95. These were mostly M923 or M935 trucks with big single tires, and also some HMMWVs.

    M35A2 vs M35A3 fuel consumption

Is there substantial difference between the two at the same road speed, say 50 MPH?

    Thinking about getting an M35A3

I already have an A2 and had it for years. I am quite familiar with the quirks of the old deuce. As crude as it is, it never broke down on the road to date. I was ready to try something new.

    Thinking about getting an M35A3

I know this topic has been discussed a lot, but I really wonder if M35A3 is such a great truck as opposed to M35A2. These are the reasons I hesitate to get an M 35A3: 1. I am not a fan of automatic transmission in any military vehicle and like to shift my gears when I decide to shift, not the...

    Spongy brakes

The fluid level is OK and I see no evidence of any fluid leaking anywhere. I will have to bleed the brakes again. First I will bleed the air pack, then one wheel at a time.

    Spongy brakes

I replaced a leaky brake light switch on my deuce several months ago. This is an old style switch actuated by pressurized brake fluid, not by pressurized air. Then I bled the system and the brakes were good and the pedal firm for a while. Then I noticed that the pedal became gradually more...

    A3 transmission questions

Can someone explain why they did not pick a 5 speed automatic with an overdrive gear for this application? Larger 5 ton trucks can easily run 65 MPH with large singles. You would think that they would make all these trucks capable of the same speed when traveling in a convoy on an interstate.

    Brake problem

The pedal was nice and firm this morning. Went for a 15 mile ride and the brakes worked fine.

    Brake problem

Thanks, that is what I will do. That original master cylinder is a horrible design. What meathead came up with this? I had to use a crawfoot wrench to get the vent line fitting off as nothing would work. No room for any other type wrench. I will probably get one of those remote reservoirs...

    Brake problem

I replaced the brake light switch and flushed the brake system with new brake fluid. I used three quarts of DOT 5 fluid to do this. When I first tried the brakes after bleeding the brakes, the pedal was a bit spongy but it is firm now. Is this normal? On passenger cars and trucks the pedal...

M109A3 from Denver , Co area to central Florida

I am seriously considering buying an M10A3 (2 1/2 ton shop van truck) in Denver, Colorado area and have it shipped to Central Florida (zip 32905). The vehicle is about 11 ft tall so it may require a special lowboy trailer. Any idea how much would it cost to have it shipped? The distance is...

    brake light switch upgrade

The hydraulic switch is a very poor design as it is not failsafe, which is definitely needs to be. Failure of the air pressure switch will merely affect the air assist, but the brakes will still function. The hydraulic switch, if it completely burns through, will cause the brake fluid to leak...

    brake light switch upgrade

Are both versions (long and short) of the air pack upgradable to the air operated brake switch type? Is the same kit compatible with all air packs? n My truck air pack is the short type and still has the original fluid operated brake switch in the front.

Changing the belts on my deuce

Sometimes the pulley threads may be very tight and you may need a cheater pipe to slip over the tool handle to turn the front half of the pulley. I bought an open right size wrench to hold the other pulley half stationary. It is a big wrench, probably 1 3/4 inches, or something like that.

How hard should the brake pedal feel

Until my recent brake light switch failure, the brake pedal feel on my truck was nice and firm. If the pedal is spongy, there is most likely air trapped in the system. And even if your air pack was not functioning properly and id not provide the required air pressure assist, the pedal should...

    Brake problem

A fine threaded bolt with some teflon tape on it which I partially threaded in by hand only to keep the brake fluid from leaking until I replace the switch. I did not have a pipe plug with the right threads.

    Brake problem

Wow, you are making a bunch of conclusions that are just wrong. I did read the post that you linked and it took me a while to figure out that these switches are actually different - the one that works off of pressurized fluid is fluid activated, the other is just an air pressure switch. They...
