Wow, Richard, that's the info I need! My first stop was at a local shop that bends pipe, but there's a sizeable piece missing from my pipe and he said that he could not find a listing for it because the truck is over 8500 GVW. I argued the point, but to no avail, so I called Parramore. He always...
The right side header pipe on my 1884 rusted and blew out. Local shops are unable to help me, nor was Parramore. Before I trek over to the GMC dealer, I thought it best to consult here first.
Thanks for any help offred,
Hey, Johnny Reb, thanks for such a great profile of me! You are 100% correct about the trucks I bought and sold. Back in DRMO days when I could spend a couple of weeks inspecting, I went for the best. Didn't always get what I bid on (sealed bid), but I did so much better than my experiences with...
That's contrary to what I've been told, that the X stands for experimental, as in XM211, then later becoming M211. I've had both and didn't notice any differences.
You're welcome, mcbaine. I know the weight because I hauled a rusted out junker bed over to the scrap yard where it was weighed. Price of steel was down, so 1300 Lb. X $1.00/100 Lb. got me a whopping $13.00.
It'll sit on the chassis just fine, but you'll have to modify the connection points. I've installed at least six that were going to be converted to dumpers, so I didn't do anything with the mouting brackets. I didn't get involved in the wiring, you might have to lengthen the harness to the...
mcinfantry,
I owned and pulled a 12-ton equipment trailer that had 12 volt electric brakes. If you decide to go with electric and pull it with your M35A2, contact me for details on how I did it. Of course, if anybody else needs the info, feel free to contact me.
I used to pull a 3/4-ton...
Rob,
I just now read your post. I haven't had any steering problems. Other than replacing some tie rod ends, adjusting toe and adjusting the slack in the steering box, I have no other experience on front ends. I don't even know how many turns the steering wheels in my trucks make stop-to-stop...
Eric,
I also took on a M211, besides my M135. Never again. On the M211, it took me a full day to do each wheel's brake system, bearings and seals. I had to locate the special steel brake lines and fabricated the standard ones and rebuild the two wheel cylinders in each brake assembly. Replaced...
Might be a ground connection within the light housing. Run a ground wire from the bulb socket directly to a real clean spot on the chassis. I've encountered this several times.
Well, if you're looking for a major project, you found it. I restored a 1952 M135 and it was a lot of work, even tough it ran and the transmission was in good condition.
Personally, I wouldn't pay much over $300.00 for the one you're looking at. The motor could be seized and you won't know...
Crane,
Rust! The pistons seize. I restored my MB in 1992-93 and put DOT 5 in. The Jeep sits in an unheated shed and I never have a brake problem. It's parked alongside my 1957 Cadillac Hardtop, one of my vehicles that I never got around to putting DOT 5 in. Every spring when I get it out, I have...
I have several vehicles, some are older civvy, and it's not unusual for them to sit for long periods before I get around to taking them out for a spin. This inevitably led to wheel cylinder problems where DOT 3 was involved, so I converted them to DOT 5 and eliminated the problem.
You're welcome, Todd. My MB tub was in really bad condition. I had to fabricate the shock covers, gas tank well, driver's side area where the gas tank filler hole was, a lot of the area indented for the ax and shovel, complete rear deck and a lot of floor area. Seats, gas tank and windshield...
Tony,
They're a weird wheel, for sure. I've worked with them many a time. That was quite a while ago, back in the nineteen-fifties when our small fleet of heating oil delivery trucks were mostly from the forties and we did all of our own tire work. I emphasize work.
deuceman,
One thing's for...
Yes, mine has the side mount and I'm thankful for that. I dealt with a lot of the flathead Ford V-8 cars and trucks with the front mounted one. Pre 1949, I think they were. This tractor has been in my family's possession since 1965. We rebuilt it back then. I got the Operator's and Service...
