Thanks for all the compliments guys. Here are some more pictures. First we have the final assembly of the steering box, then pictures of the rear axle. Enjoy!
Thanks!
I've been told that V-100 t-cases are VERY rare. I've also heard rumors that one sold for over $12k not too long ago :o That's an expense I didn't want to budget for. I'm also installing a bigger turret/basket and I don't have the room/flexibility to engineer an alternate power...
Believe it or not, this range target still had its transfer case, (I wouldn't have purchased it if it didn't). I climbed inside and it turned smoothly enough so I thought I was lucky. Weeks later, when removing it, I noticed a .50 cal size hole in the back that I didn't notice on initial...
Thanks Kyle,
I wasn’t too worried about any critical stress issues with the welding. The geometry of the vehicle is such that loads and stresses are pretty well distributed. Most of the work was low stress non-distorting welding (LSND). However, I did take prudent steps to normalize...
I'm not sure exactly how many V100/M706s are out there in private hands. I know it's not many. No more than a dozen or so I think.

The last major structural repair.... This next series of photos highlights how I dealt with...
Here's the repair of the right side, just behind the right front wheel well. This was done before the wheel well itself was cut away, (I needed some solid structure to jack against before cutting away any more steel). Note the smaller patch, (one of many 25mm entry wounds).
I'm not restoring for historical reasons. I just want a bad-a$$ second car :P . The patchwork is NOT cosmetic. It's all structural repair. I'm using 1/4" and 1/2" thick 4130 Chrome-moly steel plate. While not an exotic armor material, the 4130 is just as structually sound as the original...
Ok, time for some major body work. This time on the 120mm entry wound. The impact knocked out the winch bay, right front wheel well and a good chunk of the 1/2" thick floor. After I stripped the paint, I discovered that the impact also put a pretty good bow in the top armor plate. I had to...
I'm not sure how they get to market (and maybe I don't want to know) :D I do know however, there were at least 3-4 prior owners of my hull. Anything could have happened. Perhaps it just mysteriously vanished from the range one day....
Mark, I was amazed too. Cadalloy is very hard stuff. The harder the metal the more brittle it becomes. On some scrap material, I took a carbide center punch and a 5 lbs sledge hammer and gave it a mighty wallop. There was absolutely no evidence of any kind surface blemish. For the long...
Here's what I've found out about my vehicles history so far....
The bumper markings identify it as 89MPGP (89th MP Group) 92P (92nd MP Battalion) 188P (188th MP Company) X-46. After its reassignment, 720P (720th MP Battalion) B-46 (B Company vehicle #46).
"In July 1970 when the 188th MP...
OK, here are some pictures of the hulk/hull. There's some serious damage that required a lot of cutting and welding. There was a 120mm impact to the front right quarter and a dozen or so 25mm entry and exit wounds that played havoc with the brittle Cad-Aloy armor plate. What a mess!

Hello everyone. I've been watching this site for many months and I'm way overdue in introducing myself and sharing information on my project V100. If there's interest, I've got tons of pictures that I'd be happy to post.
