well with it being the 50s this is how I would do it according to "US Army Vehicle Markings 1945-1954" from the War Dept.
7A-9/57-O-B-XX (reading from back to front, vehicle number, Company B, 9th Battalion,57th Ordinance Group, 7th Army) All dashes should be 1/2 inch.

yea i think i just may need a new bed altogther. I took the fenders off and boyyyyyyy is it rusted between the fender wells and the bed frame. Its pretty much never going to stop rusting there, ill never be able to stop it. So ive kinda lost hope on this bed...sure wish i could find another...
checked all the simple things like plugs and wires and distributor cap. All appear to be in good shape. Still starts up like a champ and idles great but dies out once again. I also noticed that if you hold the gas pedal in just a little bit it dies out that way as well after about 20 or 30...
