I currently have mine covered with a canvas tarp and plastic over that, held in place with some bungee cords. It is permanently installed on a concrete slab next to the house so the portable trailer setup is not an option.
The reason I do this is because of the vented opening on the top that...
The storm is just starting to hit us in CT. I fire up my -803 last night to put a charge into the batteries and circulate the oil. Hopefully we don't lose power but I'm ready.
To test your charging system ammeter, go to Lowe's/Home Cheapo and get a $40 clamp on ammeter. Start the generator, clamp the ammeter around the positive cable from the battery, and see what your current is. Red on that ammeter means current coming out of the battery (draining), green is current...
I'm happy to say that my 803 already has this mod installed. Don't know if it came that way from the factory when it was built in 2009, or the Tier 2 reset in 2012, either way I'm a happy camper.
Daybreak,
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the PulseTech was solar - that doesn't work for me due to the generator being on the shady side of the house. I think I will go with the NOCO 7200 mounted in the basement and run the leads in some conduit out to the batteries.
I do have two, one for each leg. Mostly I want these to ensure that the legs are equally loaded. I have already powered everything from the generator that I want to power and it come out to about 75%, so I am not too worried about calculating total load.
So it turns out that there is enough room in the sub-panel to install these directly and don't need a separate enclosure. I will post some photo's once I get them installed.
So I am looking at either the NOCO G26000 or G7200 as a battery tender for my 803.
Do I need the 26 amps of the G26000 or is the G7200 more than enough, and half the price?
The MEP has a pair of Optima Red Tops if that matters.
My plan is to mount the charger in the basement and extend the...
I don't mind overkill, if I did I would've went with a Generac from Home Cheapo instead of the -803.
Considering the the amount of money I have in computers and home theater equipment I don't mind spending a little extra for peace of mind.
Thanks for the link.
