Oooooh... That kind of truck...
Consider taking a hint from Caterpillar and other heavy equipment manufacturers who make machines designed to operate in a sustained fashion on significant inclines-
No baffles at all, to facilitate cleaning the tank if something happens.
Four taps in the tank...
Agreed. 12,000 is about what our F550 wreckers weigh, and all the wrecker stuff weighs as much as the trucks we stick them on. Assuming that we're discussing a pickup truck here, you're talking 7000 pounds tops. 12K is a very reasonable GVWR, (gross vehicle plus load) which you'll find on the...
I almost forgot to add- Very near to where I work, there are a TON of brand new looking military vehicles being hauled in. Little to big, tracked, wheeled, and miscellaneous other stuff to keep me distracted while I should be driving the car... Lots of HEMMT stuff. Cargo, tractors...
I don't have the evidence, but I read somewhere on this site where someone had dug up info about testing the tires, and finding that the performance of the vehicles was not enhanced or impeded by having the tires "right" or "wrong", and that SOP at many points (although maybe not all) was to...
If this is the same screw in question, David Doyle might have some good advice in post number 4 of this thread:

Wires wear from vibration, and relative motion with the surfaces they contact. If you've got a problem area that stuff is awesome. For preventative maintenance, you've got a system that when kept well will last how many years? That's hard to improve upon, so IMHO your efforts are far better...
Hard to proove, big impact guns may have played a roll, but when you flat out "twist one off", it does not look like that. It looks an awful lot like ones that shear after (not during) a episode with wheel nuts coming loose, but not off. Probably sometime in the past. Probably not with the...
That's funny that they should do that, I'm not aware of any state in which the Post Office registers it's vehicles with anybody outside of the post office?
It kind of does at first, but there is more to what a bridge can carry than just weight. The wheel base, and the distance between individual axles will determine how many of the structural supports below the bridge will be bearing what percentage of the weight of which axle at any given...
When the generator charges, it does not "see" two batteries, it sees only the voltage at the alternator. It's job is to keep that constant.
When two identical batteries recieve an identical draw and and identical charge current, in theory they will remain identically charged.
When you "steal"...
Check eBay for a "Fan Belt Tightener"...
It's a generic "stamp your name here" tool that a couple of companies knock out a bunch, but comes to you in many, many brands.
The manuals referenced above seem unbelievably cumbersome at first. Take the time. They seem cumbersome because they are quite comprehensive, and done at a step by step level. Once you become familiar they're still a bit cumbersome, but very, very informative and thorough.
They are power...
Be careful of that..... I'm reading the post with interest, although I have no suggestions beyond what's been said already, except this one issue. Be careful and make sure you KNOW the ramifications.
I work for the largest light towing company in the state of Vermont, and among our many...
Search the forum, this has been covered in much greater detail...
If cracking a fluid bleeder solves the problem temporarily, no guarantees but odds are you're looking at pressure generating from the hydraulic side, not the air side. While it's locked, check for air pressure at the driver's...
For me, the purpose of this is two fold.
First, it makes frequent (daily) checks much more practical. Remember that these trucks are old. Civvy vehicles would have had a LOT more brake parts installed in them. These trucks sat with DOT 5 equivalent brake fluid in them for years with open...
That's gonna bounce.....
Lower it down so the tire rests firmly against the tongue and it should triangulate it's self. Probably could get it so that it (almost) leans onto place and sits there while you bolt it down.
Drainback valves are not infallible devices. Usually they do OK for a couple of weeks. Some don't make a couple of days. They're really designed to not leak down overnight, like for a daily driver type application. Truth is, you never really will get rid of the porosity of the filter media...
Well now that's different... If you're down a cylinder due to a head gasket, you're leaking more than oil.... Are you talking about a constant "weeping" oil leak, or do you have a gusher at one pinpoint location? The normal leak is for large areas of the block to stay wet with oil, but no...
Prolly is a head gasket, and if it ever stops leaking from there... Stop the truck and refill the oil.
The latest and greatest head gaskets will fix that, but the older designs all do it. Look for the fire ring vents (search for head gasket, tab, vent, among others for pictures) if you've...
