I guess it will depend on how often its driven.
I have an 86 HMMWV.
I've owned it for 20 years.
Repowered it with a 6.5 N/A about 5-6 years ago.
But it's not a daily driver so at the rate I'm going it's going to outlive me.
Got a 98 Ram pickup I bought brand new. I have put about 60 k on it in...
That defiantly sounds interesting as a HMMWV owner.
Also may I suggest that if your planning on trying to re create or build a tribute truck try and do it in such away that it truly honors those that
lived and died in them. If your going to go as far as naming it after a Vietnam era truck...
Kind of hard to shoot out of without a turret.
That's why I bought the truck. If I wanted a HMMWV without A turret I would have bought a different varient.
The most important question that only you will be able to answer is.
When it comes time for you to sell it.
How much you want to get for it...
No it means some insurance companies won't insure it or will charge you more if it's not garaged.
Kind of like Jetbike above's experience. Some HOA's will have a problem if it's not garaged as well.

If your not a wrench turner you better be a good...
Well I did say back in the 90's.
Lots of my questions went un answered but I probably know why.
I'm guessing it was a recent auction purchase.
I'd like to know if the car dealer guy sold it to him with plates or just a title.
If it was already plated and tagged and just changed owners that...
First off sorry you had your title revoked/ changed.
So just to be clear. You are the second owner.?
The first owner you bought the truck from bought the truck at the first auction and registered / and plated it for on highway use.
You transferred owner ship of said vehicle from his name to...
Why do you say his information is incorrect?
Who's HMMWV has been removed of it's road legal status from the original batch of HMMWV's sold at auction back in the 90's ?
This is news to me!!
I'd be interested in more information.
Are you speaking of your own experience ? or others?
When did you...
Wow
That brings back memories of going up the road a bit to the shooting range back in the day.
Used to hold our So. Cal Beltfed shooters event at the Lytle Creek range.
To bad I didn't hear about it sooner.
Looks like there will be a good turn out based on the amount of reserved camp sites.
BH
directly below the windshield wiper motor under the windshield frame there is a set of contacts. (between body and bottom of Windshield) . I'm not sure if they are the same on your 1165 as my 1045. Early trucks like the 998's had folding windshield frames. some times those contacts would be...
