Well, we ordered it through Army Jeep Parts, and that was the advertized number, they may have a mis-listing, I'd have to find one of the old cans and check it to be sure exactly what number it was, but it was definately some variety of the lusterless green, not the tan or brown kind from Korea...
The truck took about 5 days to completely do, clean, strip, prime, paint, and an extra 2 days for the trailer. That also included pulling down the troop seats, sanding, varnishing and painting those, and doing the same to the bows.
Nope, went over the truck from one end to the other with wire wheels, then did it again with a block sander untill there wasn't a jagged edge to be found. Depending on how rough and patchy the old coat was, sometimes that was just the last layer of paint, and other times, it was down to bare metal
Red oxide primer has worked great for us, we bought it from, geeze, what was the name? Some auto paint and restoration place, ends with -wood...
EASTWOOD
They have a red oxide primer and rust encapsulator you can buy by the buckeload, did both the trailer and the truck before putting the GCI...
While we're on the subject of SF97s, anyone looking into their titling options if their state does not accept a bill-of-sale, look and see if you have the option of getting a salvage title
In PA at least, a salvage title will be issued if the vehicle in question was totaled or otherwise junked...
Ours is the same way, the MWO tag is on it, with the same date (1991) but no indication of what was done.
I'm willing to bet the seatbelts were added at that time, they look suspiciously like 1990's era ones.
Our deuce had a cab tag indicating "MWO PERFORMED" Maintenence of way perhaps? In any event, there's no seriel number or work order on the tag to say exactly what that process covered, just a date.
Walter's truck has Mass. National Guard tags showing a rebuild in 91'
If they've budgeted you some funds to buy new parts, the easiest thing might be to just get new wiper motor units (assuming that the reason they aren't working is because they've just gotten stuck from disuse, not that they aren't getting air)
The wiper motors in our deuce were defective, one...
Make sure the gaskets are sitting in the oil filter bosses correctly, if you don't have them lined up right, they'll get out of the groove when the filter housing is screwed on , and they like to shift around when you try and seat them.
PA requirments for a CDL is a vehicle that
A. Weighs 26,001 pounds or more
B. Tows a trailer that weighs in excess of 10,000
C. Carries 15 or more people, excluding the driver
D. Carries placarded cargo
That's the basic requirments, though I'm sure there are loopholes for historical vehicles...
For the ammount of money they want for it, you could find one on GL or from a surplus dealer that would be in much better shape.
I'd shy away from that one, it's got "money pit" written all over it.
Not that I don't have faith you'd be able to fix whatever was wrong with it, but for almost...
He is incorrect, you do not need a CDL to drive a deuce in PA
Direct from a pamphlet I got from the DMV, it says.
A Pennsylvania CDL is required if you operate any of the following CMV's . . .
1. A vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs...
The split was in the early 80's at the time, AMC was in financial trouble and was entertaining a merger with French automaker Renault, as a result, AMC had to devest themselves of thier millitary division since they would be selling control to a foreign company, and that was not allowed at the...
Call ahead and see what kind of people are running the operation. Some of them are assholes, and some are quite helpful, just depends on who's in charge. THough, somthing that big and heavy, they probably want no part of, it's not like they can just forklift a pallet for you, that's going to...
Looks like it was an in-house manufacturing job on that switch lock. Not that it wouldn't do the job mind you, It just doesn't look like somthing that has a NSN# associated with it
I use the chain and padlock for now, but it really never goes anywhere where it would be out of my sight. If I ever have to leave it somewhere I'm worred about, I'll just snag the short battery cable and take that with me. Won't fire without that.
Kill switches are the best idea I've heard yet...
