Only took 15 min to make a gasket verses a trip to town. Now just trying to get the pump bolts started...much cussing! Seems like the back bolt has to start first. About ready to remove that pesky gen like you...but im stubborn!
Heck yeah! Just got the plate off and making a gasket right now. I had it all wrong....the rod moves in and out...not up and down. So the grease will hold the rod in while fuel pump is installed.
Cucvrus....I been replacing it from the top but without removing gen. Refresh my memory....I dont remember ever removing that rod plate. This pump never quit working...it was just leaking between the two halves...nothing in the oil as I have heard can happen. The rod is stuck at the bottom edge...
Putting a mechanical fuel pump on my m1009 right now...and im outta swear words! Took the steel line off first... its dripping fuel for 20 min.....looking for a place to pinch the rubber fuel line to stop it since tank is full...this made in usa pump better last a lifetime!
Is your nickname russ or rusty? Were you in the pa national guard in the 80s? I went to a cucv class in aberdeen and met a couple guys from I believe indian gap. They were both in the national guard. John who was colorblind. ..and russ who drove an m880. Just curious....
Bought a pair of 24 volt ir lights with both red and clear lenses. Thought about installing on fiberglass roof but would need reinforcing due to heaviness of them. Plus leary of snagging them upon tree limbs. Probably will mount them to brush guard with a home fabricated bracket to avoid...

My 85 m1009 would start fine cold after 13 sec glowplug warmup. But after say 20 min or so when starting the wait light wouldnt come on and it would have to crank about 10 secs to start. I got the temp switch from napa...ts4032 which mounts on rear if driver side head and has the original stlye...
Before I could get around to replacing my glowplugs I used a trick to save starter wear and tear on the starter motor from the excessive cranking needed to get my 1009 going. Remove your air filter element then reinstall housing empty and clean.. use a paint stripping gun to blow hot air into...
