I wouldn't be scared if you see a non runner on the site. My M1009 and M1028 were both listed as "does not start" but both were easily made to start. Most are fairly low mileage so the problems are usually not catastrophic.
I bought my M1009 before the GL website got popular and got a great...
I hate wiring also, but it's fairly simple. As truck1 said you will love it when you get done. It makes these trucks a highway rider, but also retains the stock drivetrain we love.
I never had to return anything to RA so my experience was different than yours. I have bought from LMC several times and always good, but their prices are not always the best.
Worth every penny in my opinion. Very easy to install and works like a charm. I can cruise 70mph at 2700 rpm, and retain all the benefits of the turbo 400 and 4.56 gear ratio.
I ordered the Walker parts for my 1028 from Rock Auto a couple months ago and everything fit fine. I didn't order a kit though. I order each part individually and all was good.
Personally, I like the black bumpers and grille with the 686 tan more than the 383 green, but both can be pulled off. I painted the removable top on my 1009 black and I like the contrast. As others said before it's your truck, make it your own.
I think a 4" lift would be in order for you. You might get away with a 2", but will need to do some fender trimming. How about some pics of the new addition
Even though we are in the same state we are not real close, but depending on where you are picking up I have a tow bar you can borrow that easily connects if you remove the front tow hooks. Let me know if you want to borrow it.
The axles look original, so they should be a 14-bolt rear with a detroit locker and Dana 60 open front with 4.56 gears. No such thing as a spring over on these as the springs are already over the axles. Lift kits are readily available for these trucks if your looking for some added height. Off...
I have the same issue on my 1028. I've replaced the temp sensor and glow plug card with no improvement. I'm going to go ahead with the momentary switch to energize the glow plugs manually like I did on my 1009. I wanted to do this anyway since it doubles as a anti theft device if you put the...
Chesapeake beat me too it. Check out the link he added. That is my 1028 with 2" tuff country HD springs and 1" zero rates in the rear. Adding the 2" springs without anything in the rear will make the front look higher. I'm very happy with my setup.
I have the same problem with my 1028, but it does start just not as quick as when it's cold. I was going to put a manual momentary switch to energize the glow plugs like I have on my 1009. Maybe that is not the solution since you already have that.
Personally, I would rebuild my own. This way you know exactly what you have. Any used engine is a crap shoot unless you know the person that's been running it.
LMC sells some stuff called ColorBond. It's more like a aerosol dye than a paint. It won't chip, flake, or lose adhesion. I used it on my M1009 & M1028 door panels and dash. They look factory new.
I got a rebuilt unit from thedieselstore.com for my M1009 a few years ago for I think about $350. Just looked them up and it's $515 now. You send them your old unit, but you don't get the same unit back you send them. Mine has worked flawlessly so I have no complaints.
The lack of a dash would have scared me off from bidding. I would of figured the military hacked it up for parts. Glad it worked out for you and cranked up.
He was asking for opinions from the members here on possible better products not what's necessarily in the Wiki or FAQ. Apparently many others here were willing to answer the question rather than leave a useless response.
Myself, I use Rotella T 15W-40 in 5-gallon buckets from Tractor Supply...
Hey neighbor! I bypassed my mechanical a couple years ago for an electric and left the mechanical pump in place. I do intend to remove mine and install a blank off plate just have not gotten around to it yet. I don't think you need a pressure relief valve unless the electric pump is for...
I told my 13-year old that the M1009 will be hers to drive when she gets her license. No point in adding to the stable when there is something in the driveway that can be driven. I figure it's big, safe, reliable and easy to drive. When she heads off to college we will have to figure something...
You don't say what the CCA of your battery is, but I use 2- 1000 CCA on my M1009 that is 12v and I have had no issues starting it even when it's 15-degrees out. With that said my M1028 that is still 24v does start easier.
