The instructions do not say to ground the 14v stud in the Niehoff application. I've heard lots of folks say to ground that 14v post - but I've never been able to confirm it. Perhaps it's a different mfg? The Niehoff installation instructions are here...
Finally got my console / stereo / accessory issue resolved. I ended up building a small ammo box to hold the stereo and accessories.
Ive got a dual-voltage alternator/regulator setup so I ran battery cable from the 14v post on the regulator to the back battery. From there - I ran power to...
So - here's what I ended up doing. I built an ammo box out of wood to size, and bolted it to the radio tray. 12v power supply to the ammo box - installed a battery cutoff switch there - and a fuse block to feed accessories. I have a couple of USB charging ports, and LED license plate lights...
I have a question. I've never re-wired a car or truck - but have done so on a few boats I've owned. Multiple batteries, charging relays, and the like. It's an ABYC requirement that overload protection be located within 7" of a power source on a boat - including starting batteries. On my...
I mocked up a console with some foam board. A couple of 4 1/2" speakers and a blue tooth receiver on the top part - cup holders will go on the larger shelf - and I'm likely going to put a locking glovebox on the front face. Going to add some USB outlets and might try some small LED lights for...
I just did this a couple of weeks ago. as the folks before me said - heater and heater core need to come out. Access the nuts for the core from the air intake chamber. It's a good time to wash out the heater core (inside and out) - get dust off of the fan, heater boot, etc.
Thanks. I've already got a radio tray to start with . . . I think I'm going to fabricate something with wood / cardboard and then talk to someone about making it from aluminum or sheet metal . . .

I've seen AMG's petition to NHTSA to waive the ABS mandate for 4WD vehicles. They complained they were having a hard time finding someone to design an ABS system for their full-time 4WD torque-biasing differentials - that they weren't selling enough units to justify development costs. In 1996...
I've read they changed the steering column to a Ford LTD column (I believe) - but have not seen other safety related changes. Yes- I've got 3-point belts at the corners and DOT lighting.
Most things out there refer to the AMG trucks, pre-H2, as the H1. But whatever. You cleary win the...
Swiss - I don't think you and I are in any significant disagreement. My questions is this - did they certify the H1 in 1992 as complying with the FMVSSs? They absolutely had to do it to sell them to the public - right? If so - what did they change - from the HMMWV to the H1 - to certify them...
This is all very interesting . . .
First - a "group" effort will be tough - as this is really a state-by-state issue. Some state's DMV's issue titles and register the trucks - others do not.
The "Off-Road" stamp on the SF-97 is what appears to be causing the confusion and creating the...
