Option to buy AN/TRC-145 comm shelter

The radios are old tech, tube, and not very practical for most civilian applications - like Ham radio. However, depending on the completeness of the set, it could be of interest to someone who collects military communications equipment. Shelters are available from a number of sources and the...

*(PAINT DONE PICS)*Looks like I am gonna be a proud CUCV OWN

Congratulations on getting your new toy home! Hope you are very happy with it. Good job on the camo paint. Very nice for a "rattle can" job. I'll be doing something similar on my Pioneer Tool Trailer this summer - when the job permits - gotta get the OT to buy more stuff for the trucks. :)

Anyone know what this mount is for?

I've never seen one, but have seen references to mounting an NBC detector on the passenger floorboard. This might be for a chemical alarm, or something of that sort. Definitely haven't seen anything like that for a radio. Especially in a M1009. Anyone up on chemical alarms and such?

    Antenna bracket question

Bigmick: Use the SS resources. The following manuals (and lots of others) are available for download in .pdf format in the Technical Manual section: TB 11-5820-890-20-77, SINCGARS radio installation in M1009 (good ideas for any radio installation) TM 11-5820-401-10-HR & TM 11-5820-401-20-1...

    M76 Otter pics and information

It was a pretty neat vehicle, primarily used in a supply or support role as I recall. Did pretty well with the rice paddies in Vietnam, but just about anything that was fired at it went through and through. Olive Drab has a couple of good photos at...

    Short Trip Interesting Find ..

How about that, we found 5 ..... of the 325 that were made. I saw two in a back corner at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ many years ago but they went away I know not where. One looked restorable the other looked like a parts machine ... but who knows how they ended up. How about this for a modification...

    Short Trip Interesting Find ..

Hardly qualifies as a road trip, I had to work out of the Traffic Operations Center in Elmwood Park for 2 weeks instead of the Hanover Yard, HOWEVER, in the course of scouting for important things .. like the Dunk'n Donuts I found an interesting lawn ornament at the Elmwood Park Recreation...

    route clearing trucks

RE: Re: RE: route clearing trucks Excellent photos, thanks for the update! With all the "modern" technology you'll note that the lowly sandbag is still there "up armoring" the vehicles. I did it in Vietnam, my uncle in Korea, my dad in Europe during WW II, and on and on ... REMEMBER: EYES...

    Insalation kit MK-1967/VRC????

AH HA! While preparing to upload some new TMs I found that TM 11-5830-340-30 is available in the Technical Manual section - it should answer all of your questions about the intercom components and installation.

    Insalation kit MK-1967/VRC????

Re-reading your original note I see that you want to install an intercom kit in an M109. Check TM 11-5820-401-20-2 it shows the components and installation of the AN/VIC-1 intercom setup. This is primarily intended for use in tracked vehicles so it isn't addressed in the TM for wheeled...

    Radio headset storage/hanging

For those of you interested in hanging your headsets on something official and green, check ebay for this item: 190086785666 For some reason he has it listed as a Mic Hook - don't ask me why. It is for a headset. As usual his price is high, but I haven't seen many of these flying about. I have...

RE: Nope What you have there: INSTL KIT: MK-1967/VRC F/KY-57/W AUXILARY RECEIVER R442 Is the installation kit for the KY-57 (which you can't own) for use with the Auxilary Receiver R442. MI to GA

Truck is look'n good - nice tires! Unfortunately you are too far West for me to offer any scenic tips - my part time job is managing a GREAT campground for Morris County - and we are pet friendly. So, if you are ever in the North Jersey / NY area we got the best deal around - and a special rate...

*(PAINT DONE PICS)*Looks like I am gonna be a proud CUCV OWN

Congratulations on your new rig. I'm sure you will enjoy the M1009, it has the acoustics of a metal bucket, but I enjoy mine. It looks like you have power setup for military radios (the bars behind the passenger seat) but no radio shelf, etc. You may have noticed that the back seat is missing -...

    missing dash parts?

In the civilian blazer that is where the radio goes. In the M1010 the controls for the gas-particulate filter unit and the switches for the exterior floodlights. In the M1008 and M1009 there is a plastic plate the covers the hole. According to TM 9-2320-289-10. I'll post a photo tomorrow, once I...

    Marine Corps use of m170

No details, or photos, but "Standard Catalog of US Military Vehicles" by David Doyle mentions that while most were ambulances, "a few ... were outfitted as radio trucks or airfield taxis." Nothing useful in "US Military Wheeled Vehicles" by Fred Crismon. Good Luck!

report from Colemans today w maddawg

Ah yes! The joys of towing a "cranky" mule. When we were doing amphibious assaults in Vietnam as part of the Special Landing Force it was understood that mules did not do well in the surf. So anytime one was on a landing craft it was hooked to another vehicle and towed to the beach. We drug a...
