well... my 1009 needed a bit of work... new GP's, shocks, air filter, batteries, harmonic balancer, coolant crossover(doh) brake work, belts, hoses(doh) thermostat, dash light bulbs, starter, spare tire, dashboard, tailgate crank, patch welding rear rust holes... probably some other stuff too...

i haven't noticed any power issues with my truck off road... only issues i have are 60+ uphill with a load... the truck needs some more throttle to maintain. Again... not complaining at all. i have a 1009

Buy a 1008 and trade me axles from my 1009....

This might be a dumb suggestion... are your hubs locked and are you in 4wd? Air filter dirty? Black smoke suggests its getting more fuel than it can burn.
