It's tinned copper, with the size shown as part of the wire number. It wouldn't be stainless steel, because of that material's poor conductivity.
I'm sorry, but I don't know where you can buy wire with the same jacket as the original. I don't bother, but use good quality PVC jacketed wire...
The one I have has a sensitivity adjustment on its circuit board. I had to play with mine a little after I extended the sense wire with some shielded wire, but it works great now.
I know you're all set now with a nice way to charge, but here's an alternative I did a couple years ago. Since the charge current is low, I connected to +24v and ground inside the control cabinet of my 003A, putting a fuse in the + wire.
I didn't meant to insult you, but I also didn't think the enlarged photos were that terribly small. I readily admit I've overlooked a few seemingly obvious things in my life. :)
The 72-5020 and 72-5338 are the same for all practical purposes. There are minor and insignificant differences in the ratings of a couple components, but the circuit is the same. When I designed the replacement regulator that I sell, I went though every component, looking up its NSN and...
For the dozen or so times I run my 003A in a year, I think I'd hang a cheap wrench from a leather strap near the battery tray and remove the ground cable to disconnect the battery after running, before I'd buy that switch. On the other hand, if I ran it weekly or more often, a high quality...
Actually, removing the 24v charging regulator's fuse that's near the oil filter and fan housing will just disconnect it from the 24v battery. The battery will still remain connected to the generator's control system, so the only problem is that it will slowly discharge with the generator...
Wow, that's a fancy control panel and nice running generator! Maybe the starter needs a little cleaning and lubrication so it engages reliably when cold.
I don't see how an intermittent connection could have hurt anything on an 002A, other than a capacitor on a fuel pump. There's essentially nothing electronic in the generator, and a simple solenoid type fuel pump won't care about the bad connection. The capacitor on each pump is there to...
