I must say, I'm very impressed with the AMAZING fording capabillities of the US Army's FMTVs!!!!
NOT SO MUCH WITH THE CAPABILLITIES OF THE OPERATORS BRAINS THOUGH....
See attached video to be in awe.....

Some holes are easier to drill than others...
One of the reasons why I had to take the winch back off the FEMTT, was to drill the four 3/4" holes that attach it to the new front anchor points, behind the engine.
There was no way to do it in place, and as you can see in the pics, it still...
KJ,
Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out the whole 55000 series Oshkosh TC situation myself. Apparently Oshkosh makes a bunch of different versions of the 55000 transfer case! I even saw one with a "direct" and "overdrive" only setup, No low range!
So I welcome input from anyone that can tell...
You are not kidding!!! It took me half a day to do the driver side!!! You have to remove EVERYTHING: dash, steering wheel, steering gear box, the mounting bracket for the steering components, a small cover plate on the left under the dash, the brake pedal assembly with bracket and the throttle...
More painting and assembling....
I did some more painting today, got the front tires back on, took the winch back off for final welding and painting and hooked up the fuel lines.
I made a list of the steel needed to fabricate the new hood and the fenders. I'm having them cut the hood and...
That is absolutely correct! I had some concerns about it myself, but the bolts are actually 90 degrees off from each other and they are not nearly as close as the photo would make you believe. Thanks everyone!
It is starting to look like a truck again....
Hmmmm, I finished painting the cab today and started to hook up the steering, when all of a sudden it hit me like a brick....I finally figured out why they use a different type of yoke for the steering stub shafts than for all the other driveshaft...
Of course there is still an engine where the hood used to be and it is getting a new one as we speak....the area where the cab was previously located at, is now shared by the 45,000 pound DP winch and the Wajax knuckle boom. This does free up 12 feet of bed space on the rear of the frame for the...
Tony,
He is refering to the wheel arrangement of the locomotive. Different wheel arrangements have different designations.
This engine is a "Prairie" because it has a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement (2 pilot wheels, 6 drive wheels and 2 trailing truck wheels).
With steam locomotives the wheel...
Thank you, I'm glad you guys are enjoying the thread. I will certainly take pictures of the 'April job' and share them with the S.S. members.
Here is a sneak preview of 'The Job'.....236,000 pounds of it....and a mile to go... :???:
The cab is back on!
Well....I'm tired but happy; the CAB IS BACK ON and almost painted!!!! :jumpin: It was a long day, but thanks to my 'little helpers' we made good progress.
As I mentioned I'm a little worn out, so I'm not going to write a long description, but here are some pics....
Well, I got the inside of the 'pan' painted before it started sleeting.....I will hopefully be able to finish the front and paint the underside of the cab today!
Here are a couple of pics.
It is supposed to be really nice weather....we'll see... :-D
Sorry guys! I will do a thread on the 10 ton M123A1C after I get the FEMTT drivable. I have a job coming up in April that I need the FEMTT for, so unfortunately I have a dead line now!
