This statement is true but mis-leading. Cold gear oil will increase resistance to the turning of your wheels with the hubs locked in. But after living in Minnesota for a few years back in the 90's. where the roads can get the slickest black ice. I have never seen or heard of the front tires not...
I have to disagree with this statement. As long as the transfer case is in 2wd. the front and rear drive shafts are NOT connected in the transfer case. So they will NOT fight each other, bind or anything else with the two exceptions being wear of front drive line parts which is very little, and...
When you lock the hubs in and do NOT put it in 4wd the only thing you are doing is locking the axles to the hub/wheel. Which in turn, turns the front axles, R&P, front driveshaft. These parts are not under power they just turn with force from the road.
I would check the following.
1. The...
If your talking about the rear main seal on the block?
I would wait until the leak gets to the point of you to being tired of the stains in the driveway. Or tired of keeping the engine oil level on the full mark.
mine leaks but by the time its due for a oil change its about 1 quart low. and...
It should be as easy as the 350 or the 454 as was my case. but what plans do you have for the stock gearing? or what is your use of the truck?
Things to think about:
1. radiator size,
2. gearing 5:87 means your top speed will be low
3. What shape is your x-fer case. most of the stock ones...
Don't forget that hydro-locking the motor is usually bad for valves, cranks, rods, pistons ect.... put a snorkel on the intake if you really think your going into deep water
I will keep an eye out for it out here in The Dalles, As so far my M1008 is the only one I have seen in this town.
I guess I may need to put back in the old military Anti-thief device ie: a chain and lock
Once you open it up and look inside that will help determine cost. Look for rust and broken gears and rusted bearings it could get expensive to replace the parts.
Those front ends complete are fairly cheap just make sure of what your buying and that the gear ratios are the same or that adds a...
I think its time to pull the front cover and see what you have in there for rust, pieces of metal ect..
In the meantime make sure the hubs are unlocked and do not use 4wd
You could try this:
With the hubs unlocked you should be able to get under the vehicle and turn the front drive shaft it...
For me I needed a daily driver and the ability to haul stuff while I swap motors in my M715.
Now after having my M1008 for a few months I may keep it. Not sure I need it but it is warmer then the other vehicles I have.
It should be titled "what I did NOT do" today.
I went to start the truck m1008 up this morning to go to work. I noticed no "wait" light then noticed no clicking noise. Then noticed the "no seat belt on" buzzer not going off!
No way the truck was going to start with it being 18 degrees out...
As with all clicking starters make sure you have correct voltage at the starter. Check voltage at the starter, check all connections between the batteries and starter.
Try the search function I know it's not the best one but it does work for more ideas.
for those of you running 35-38 tires how is performance when you have a couple thousand pounds in the bed?
Any of you have the IP turned up some? if so how are EGT's/
Do you still have the stock 6.2?
If so how is the performance?
I've thought about that size of tires but concerned about performance as my truck will be loaded down with wood.
