Fifteen grand for a nice 710K is not unreasonable. That's what I paid for mine. Yes, they do occasionally pop up cheaper than that, but those are the exception, not the rule.
The nice thing about a Pinz is that it will probably hold it's value as you own it. If you ever sell it, you can probably...
Jouster, buy a 102" stainless whip for the CB. Use a ball mount with spring on your vehicle.
All are available online or probably at your local radio shack.
Just a shot in the dark here, but do you have radios and antennas also connected up with your VIC system?
If so, does the noise and dropout happen when traveling at relatively fast speeds? say 35-40mph + ?
Then I would say you might be picking up static electricity from your antennas. Then...
I just got a nice pair of TA-43 phones, and for fun, I wanted to try interfacing them with the VIC-1 in my truck.
I connected the phone to the AM-1780 via the LINE(TEL/REMOTE) wire inputs
Nothing was heard on the truck headsets while talking into the phone's handset, but I could hear headset...
So the ringer (hand crank) voltage on the field phones won't fry the -1780?
************
(additional info) So tonight I experimented hooking up a TA-43 to the AM-1780 via the LINE(TEL/REMOTE) wire inputs
on the -1780. Nothing was heard on the -1780's headsets while talking into the -43's...
So the WD-1 is like twisted pair telco wire, and the WD-1A is like Siamese lamp cord or speaker wire. I assume the actual insulated
conductors in either case is the same(?)
What about the /TT suffix? (as in WD-1/TT) What does that denote?
Mike
I think I could live with a DR-8 reel, but I'm still a little confused with the differences between WD-1 and WD-1A
Which ever one is both rugged enough and small enough to get the most wire on the reel is the one I want.
I might consider getting some of the good stuff, but it'd be nice if I could first handle and see it to determine if it would be too big and bulky for my liking. I might even be interested in going for as much as 2,000'
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not sure if I want the "real stuff" or not. I'm thinking of purchasing these more for the novelty of it,
rather than for actual use. Once in a while I might see playing with it on a camping trip or something similar. So judging from your answers,
it seems like...
I'm thinking of getting a pair of TA-312 phones, and was wondering if there was a minimum
wire gauge that they like.
I was thinking for convenience of size and weight, I'd get a small spool of regular 2-strand telco UTP
wire, but then thought that might be too small.
I guess it also might...
CARNAC and wsucougarx, thank you for the replies. I downloaded the five manuals. Lots to look through. Still trying to see if there's a way to adjust VOX sensitivity.
That's good. I prefer VOX. So then, when you switch to radio, is keying the radio also by VOX?
and is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the VOX threshold?
Okay, another question tho...
Re: VIC-1 system. when communicating intercom, how is that done? Is it PTT?, VOX? or can it be either?
And how does one select between intercom and keying radio?
Thanks
