I am going to sell the latest restoration bike in the next week or so. I just need a day when the weather is good to get some good pictures. I went on riding with buddy yesterday in New Mexico to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday. I took out my USMC M1030B1 and had an awesome time.

USMC diesel motorcycle sold on GovDeals. 2003 Kawasaki KL650-A17

That is correct. No parts available. I saw one on eBay last week sell for over $12,000!

Almost Done, Again. I am about finished with the latest bike (bike #3). This will be the fifth bike, as I don't count my buddies or mine. This was the most extensive and expensive rebuild so far. I am currently in the midst of changing the engine hardware out to stainless. I also changed the...

    Usmc m1030b1

I’m pretty much done with bike #3. I just need to reupholster the seat, bleed the brakes, install the mirrors, install the goggle bag, and install the front blackout light. It has the best shock out of all of them and the engine runs and shifts perfectly. I always want to keep these every time I...

USMC diesel motorcycle sold on GovDeals. 2003 Kawasaki KL650-A17

Those are the diesel ones. Basically Hayes built the gas one and it was designated as the M1030B1. Then the Marines gave those bikes back to Hayes around 2003. Hayes then restored them and threw in the diesel motors and it became designated as the M1030M1. The parts for the diesel one don’t...

Finally got the starter lock out switch (clutch safety switch) in. Go the bike to start up. https://youtu.be/xiJNdyHHOD4 The new radiator isn't leaking and the fan comes on as well. The only things left are installing the IMS (original to the M1030B1 new old stock), skid plate, plastics, front...

    Usmc m1030b1

I made some progress on Bike 3 over the last few days. I got the carb in, lower brush guards, engine mounts, put in a new front headlight / fairing bracket, finished wiring all of the harness except the rear taillight, new start switch, handle bars, handle bar brush guard, handle bar controls...

    Usmc m1030b1

Got pretty far on bike #3. I noticed that the front sprocket looks a bit rough. I will replace it along with adding the Eagle Mike prevailing torque nut. I got the cooling and electrical pretty much done. I also replaced the engine oil line and hardware (wound up busting my knuckle on the...

    Kawasaki M1030M1 Manuals

The B1 and M1 are obviously different. Hayes Diversified Technology modified a civilian KLR to get the B1 and then modified those for the M1. They are currently out of business. That’s the risk with the diesel M1. Lack of parts, lack of TMs, etc.

    Kawasaki M1030M1 Manuals

I couldn’t find any. As far as I know they were maintained by civilians. A regular klr650 service manual works. The wiring is a bit different as far as the black lights and switch are concerned.

Finally got the engine in for Bike #3

    Usmc m1030b1

Started getting the bike back together. It’s getting colder here so no more time to ride. This leaves more free time to get this one done. So far the following has been completed. -Upgraded the subframe bolts to Eagle Mike and red Loctite. -Replaced the subframe. It looked a bit rusted...

    Glow plug changing-tdc per cylinder?

For broken plugs: I used to remove the injector, put bent forceps in to grab the glow plug from inside. Then I’d tap the glow plug from the outside. It would pop through and the other half would be on the forceps.

Finally got bike #3 stripped to the frame. Here is a picture of some of the stuff we painted today. We will give it a day to set up and then get into to assembly in a few days. This usually involves trouble shooting, replacing seals / parts, and fluids. The price for Bike 2 has been dropped...

    Usmc m1030b1

Since the weather is a bit cold here its time to start on bike 3. The previous post showed what it looked like before we started breaking it down. Right now my jack is broken so I’ll grab my buddies tomorrow and take out the engine, the wheels, kickstand, handlebars, and the forks. Then it’s...

We have decided to sell the second restored bike. The for sale add on Steel Soldiers can be seen here https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?174073-USMC-M1030B1-695-miles-(2000-Kawasaki-KLR650)-5800

    Kawasaki M1030M1 Manuals

I believe they were maintained by contract civilians. There weren't any TMs for the M1030B1s.

M1030B1: fuel leak / unique replacement parts

I have 8 M1030B1s. I believe I know what is leaking. My best advice is to switch the fuel petcock from vacuum to direct flow. This is about $35 from Eagle mike. You'll have the gasget that fits in the petcock groove and a IMS tank kit (minus the gas cap) is about $40. It includes the tank...

    Usmc m1030b1

Finished my buddy’s bike. This was one of the two originally ones we purchased. We had to do the normal restoration and rebuild the top end of the motor. Other than that it went really smoothly. The 6 auction bikes have been a pain in the ass with everything. The second auction bike is now 100...

    Usmc m1030b1

Got Bike #2 done. The pictures are from a two-day 200 mile test ride. We hit the highways and trails (mostly trails). Since the pictures were taken I have repainted the forks, replaced the fork boots with new OEM Steel Grey, and fixed the rear turn signal. I’ll try and get some up to date...
