AC in M1009
I know this is an old thread but wanted to post an update. As I had previously posted I retrofitted a suburban A6 (the old long radial compressor) into my CUCV w/o sacrificing the 24 V setup.

Finally after a long time found the issue. The system would work great with a civilian alt but the CUCV alt was always a bit lower.
Finally Fixed
An old post but I finally got it licked! I had pretty much accepted it as it was and was concentrating on other issues. Ultimately, I never ran the batteries down and I began to believe it might be my imagination despite the numbers not being to my liking. Maybe it was a bad...
Voltmeter should stay pegged in the middle of the green
Michael
Good article in MV mag. From what I can tell the reason why I was having trouble pinning this down is that the number 1 alternator was putting out not the right amount. From the description offered in the magazine I think what...
So sure enough with the Civilian test alternator the voltmeter pegs in the center of the green zone area of the gauge after the glow plugs shut off. Now I know that the rebuild isn't right. So back it goes for a 3rd time!
Warthog and everyone else who has pitched in an answer,
Thanks that did it. I feel vindicated. The entire time I knew the system wasn't keeping up.
With the caddy alternator on everything is as it should be--perfect. Voltmeter centers after glowplugs shutoff and barely moves out of the...
I am trying to isolate my pesky alternator problem and ordered a civilian 27SI for the driver side. Obviously the STE/ICE plug is missing as is the ground connector. I can just leave the STE/ICE plug disconnected but what about the ground connector? Do I have to rig something up from the...
Thats what I recall before the shop "fixed - rebuilt" my alternators. When the caddie alt comes in then I will see how it behaves and what type of voltage readings I'm getting with that installed. For now the CUCV is driveable -- just not where I think it should be. Just can't bear the fact...

So now that everything is working fine when you turn on high beams, fan to max, and any other electrical where does your voltmeter read? Doe sit stay centered in the green when you add load or does it drop to half way in the green (1/4) when add load?
Thanks
Sweet! Thanx for the words. Feel better. Paint condition is fine. I just hate the awful white.
Any tips on finding painter who will shoot it right other then having a LVHP gun or does the CARC II work in standard HVLP guns?
So this is a similar question except I don't want to do the inside.
I want to restore the exterior CARC. In this case Dept of State painted white over top of the original CARC OD. Under the circumstances of them losing an M1009 which got fire bomb cause the locals didn't like the US mil...
I guess it should work. There is space between the stock tank and the skid plate. Probably adequate for the extra 4 gals. Risk would be that you wouldn't be able to get the skid plate back on but how you use the vehicle would decide if you needed to keep the plate. My thought was to do the...
Thanks for taking time to look.
You think they know how to run a computer?! Unfortunately that is the sad truth. Whenever you go to the stores and if they can't use a code reader they can't explain or figure out anything. In this case they have their hand held alt testers but I am certain...
>>>Awesome exactly what I hoped to hear. We'll see when it comes in.
I have no intention of leaving the commercial alternator on there. I am just doing it for a test of the system. If with the caddy unit installed my system keeps up then both rebuilt alternators are getting sent back to...
Michael --
Appreciate your reply. >>>I searched and searched but either no one ever posted output numbers or discussed how the system reacts when placed under electrical load.
This has been covered before many times, but I will summarize it again.
The gauge on the dash is just a ballpark...
I swapped the alternator plug ends and looks nice and new..except like you said the wire colors.
So I am going to try to swap in the Caddy Alternator and see how my lower voltage readings check out.
Anything I need to be aware of since this is a case grounded unit vice the original...
