    M1028 gear ratio swap input

Keith_J; I have only recently seen the folks on here that did the swap that are stoked about the 700R4, never heard a good thing about them till then... The 4L80 would be very cool, but I'd rather have a manual if I'm going to be doing any substantial amount of re-engineering already. Stock...

    M1028 gear ratio swap input

Recovry4x4, I was actually reading up on another post where you mentioned you were installing the sm465, did you ever detail that build? I would like to hear more!

    M1028 gear ratio swap input

Hi all, I am looking for input from folks who have swapped their axle gear ratios from the stock 4.56 to something less aggressive like a 3.73. I mostly run on the roads, I don't offroad recreationally, but occasionally find myself off the beaten path for work or play, but never crawling. It...

M1008 GP wait light stays on.

Hi Twigiestdrip, obviously there is probably some troubleshooting and connection checking you can do that the other guys are talking about. That being said, I just replaced my stock GP Controller with the Hillbilly Wizard unit and I am very pleased with it, I've driven the truck every day for...

    Starter ran off on me

I had the exact same thing happen to me this spring... In the parking lot at the parts store. I thought the **** truck caught fire. Just the fusible links. Ended up ordering a new OEM GM starter relay, which is a PITA to find a replacement for if you want to stay stock. You can get them if you...

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

I forgot to update what was determined; I took the original to diesel doctor and they rebuilt it. Upon installation the Gen light in question lit when the ignition was turned on and went out when the vehicle is running. So far no issues and about 3k miles down the road. So that Amazon sourced...

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

Yeah, if the new one is good, I'm keeping the old one and will take it to out local rebuilder and have them do it when I can. I figure if one went out, the other probably isnt far behind.

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

Thanks antennaclimber, I'm tracking somewhat on the set up of Gen 2 now thanks to that article. I did test the voltage when I initially installed the new alternator, I cannot recall what the result was and the new Alt is packaged up and ready to return. When I get the new one, success or not I...

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

I get the impression you dont believe me; I wouldn't believe me either with how often the wiring gets screwed up on these, that plus my disclaimer that I'm not electircian, but here is the schematic, and this is exactly what I am seeing in my engine bay. You'll note that there is no ground...

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

Let me try to explain again. Gen 2, the passenger side alternator never had an isolated ground. The isolated ground is on gen 1, the driver's side alternator. The alternator that failed is Gen 2. Everything worked marvelously for 2 years and 10k miles, so it was hooked up correctly.

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

Hi, the new alternator is the correct part number as the original stock acdelco alternator and has the same terminals etc, the ground was not previously present on gen 2 only on gen 1. Everything was stock and functioning up till this point.

    M1008 help

Like a couple other members mentioned, without any symptoms, diagnosing isnt really possible. When you say "ignition pump" do you mean the high pressure fuel injection pump? There is a low pressure pump on the passenger side of the engine, pretty simple affair if you are good a car yoga (not...

    1985 M1028 Gen 2 light

Hi all, new to the forum, though ive been haunting the threads for a long time. The other day when I started my CUCV, the Gen 2 light came on and stayed on for the long drive home. Upon getting home, I tested the current at the back of gen 1(drivers side) and found 12-13volts and tested...
