So I found this site: http://www.offroadltd.com/bumpers.htm and it is pretty much exactly the rear bumper that I want. Crazy expensive but I can't fab that myself so I'll start saving once I'm on the road. I sent the company an email with questions and figured that folks might find the reply...
So I still can't work on the old girl since the house remodel is not complete. Still, I've been aching to get out there and look to see if I've damaged her when I face-planted and hooked up the trickle charger backwards on the rear battery. I cannot get either battery to charge at this point so...
Yep, you got it right. 1800+ miles. *sigh* So regarding the door, you're about 2 hours from me so I'm not sure that would work financially at the moment but send the pictures anyway. My doors are clean of rust so I could just carve out the bottom of the existing passenger door and patch it into...
Don't I wish! But no, Jefferson City Missouri. 940 miles one way. That was a calculation that seemed fine on paper, I don't mind a long drive, but the reality was quite a different story.
So the door minus guts is what you have? From a bit of research it seems the entire line of c/k front...
So here she is on the trailer getting ready for the drive home. I didn't take any pictures on the road since I was solo and it wasn't nearly as fun as I had hoped. Running this trailer behind a 29' RV, it's pretty easy to have the trailer drive you. Snow in the Appalachians made it much more...
So I got the old girl home on Tuesday. Although it needs more work than I expected and I know now that I should have paid more and gone local, I'm still pleased with it. RV gas alone was $650 to go from Baltimore -> Jefferson City -> Baltimore. Yeouch! But it's water under the bridge now...
Reviving a not-so-old thread, I think the New Castle site just did it again with a bunch of stuff. They had a decent M101A2 and a junky M101A1 that were being sold together last night and when I checked this morning, nuthin! I'm pretty bummed.
Yeah, I figured. If I win one of the current crop of 1102's near me I'm going to have to baby it home on back roads because I probably won't have a real hitch early enough. OR I could just put a pintle receiver on and tow it behind the minivan. That would be a sight to see! And an accident...
So I don't have my M1009 yet but I'm actively digging around here for data. I want a trailer for it that I can use for scouts, camping and as a range vehicle for the metal targets. So it won't be airborne but there will definitely be some off camber hauling and creeping over bumpy stuff. I would...
Whitfield: Thanks for the simple description. I get it now. Looking forward to diving into the TMs on this to get everything squared.
Rick: Thanks for the advice. I'll try it once I get it home but the metal work will go to my body guy. I've learned through the years what I can and can't do...
So I found the dog head mod but didn't find anything directly on the 12 glow plug mod. By that I mean it's discussed everywhere but I don't see anything describing why to do it? It looks from my reading so far that the glow plugs are already on 12V, it's just the starter circuit that gets 24V...
So these are screen shots from the online video. Doesn't look like any front end damage other than this area but the last picture seems to indicate a little extra space above the body ridge. I'm not terribly worried about it anymore. It is what it is.
I do (or did 25 years ago) know how to...
Hah! I have no idea at all! This is my first diesel and the last time I had a REAL solid axle 4x4 was 12 years ago. I'll tag it in whatever way is the cheapest I can possibly do it.
So "the plan". Right now it is to make it as reliable as I possibly can, get as many spare parts as I can...
Thanks, it'll be ****ed good to be in a real 4x4 again. I'm tired of being limited by those stinkin' curbs and my neighbor already offered to buy my sedan. Just got get this thing home and fixed up.
So I guess I'm lucky I'm church people. A real estate agent friend from the church offered her 30 foot Winnebago this evening. It's got a tow package and I've spent quite a bit of time getting the generator running for her and repairing the plumbing. It won't be cheap on gas but I can pick it up...
Yep, I already talked to Mike. I asked about pickup the week after Thanksgiving and he said that was fine with him but not so much with his boss. I don't want to be the a$$hole making waves for a guy just trying to do his job so I'm going to try and be out in the 10 days. Not going to try and...

The EUC Status page at GL is empty. I'll wait until I see hear back from GL, just to be sure.
Yeah, the drive-it-home idea is not something I want to count on. It would be nice but not based in reality. I'll either rent a full trailer from here or borrow my buddy's.
