Truck looks great! I have question as to which temp sensor you replaced? If I remember right the one the triggers the glowplugs is on the rear of the drivers head. They came out with a new style one with a 2 prong gm plug and sensor. The original one is a single wire. Did you install the new...
I pulled my glowplugcard. I dunno look ok but who knows. Curious though, I’m wondering if something in the ignition switch burnt since that supplies power to the glowplugcard. I think that’s how it works I dunno.
Ya I have not added any grounds. Probably should add a few lol…ok I will see if the manual glowplug button still work when it cools down. Thank you I will look into the relay and see
Yeah it's probably coming from a bad body ground that back fed through the glowplugcard. The ground at the passenger rear intake bolt to the cab is all it has unless you added some. The buzz could have been the gp relay.

Could the temperature sensor on the driver's side rear part be used to install a temperature sensor on the dashboard? and leave the yellow + cable and the black - cable of the sensor without connection, since my GP card is dead and I had to make a manual switch to the glowplug and the wait...
...was done. I know you're going for the factory stock though but thought I'd throw it out there. I also know a guy that has stock harnesses with the glowplugcard if you want a new one. He's kinda eclectic surplus guy but I could get it and bring it up to ya.

Thanks for the reply. The resistor that was supposed to bring 24v down to 12v failed. So my gp solenoid, card and plugs were getting 24v. I bypassed the resistor by literally “cutting it off” and leading in 12v from the first battery to the gp solenoid.
...the glowplugs and bypassed the resistor to give the solenoid 12v and a manual glowplug button in the dash because I think the glowplugcard was done as well. The truck ran like a champ for months and months. I realized that slowly over this time I would need to glow the plugs a little more...
@Buck69 really awesome writeup man, hats off to you for your thoroughness. I really appreciate it, and it's interesting to me because I feel like your truck and my new harness might be wired differently.
I have no glowplug wiring harness in my truck, it was tore up and there was no GP control...
First post.
I own a 1985 M1008 CUCV. 12 volt conversion, with new AC Delco 60 plugs that all work. I have a functional bypass / manual button that cycles the plugs. When I turn ignition switch, glowplug wait light appears / disappears when appropriate when hot / cold. I am familiar with the...
There is fuel in the fuel filter. When I'm cranking the engine, there is no white smoke coming out of tail pipe (at least none from what I can see). I can smell fuel. Before changing fuel filter, when I took off filter it was full of fuel. At this point in time, I do not have a voltmeter...
...get the WAIT light to come on, then watch the voltmeter. No voltage tells you something is amiss in the electrics somewhere- short path from the batteries to there, so should be easy enough to trace.
Where did you get the glowplugcard? It might be bad from new.
Let us know what you find.
I cannot get my M1009 to start. The batteries are fully charged. I have replaced the "glowplugcard", glowplug distributer located on fire wall, and the fuel filter (which does fill with fuel).
I let the plug cycle three times and crank the engine for about five seconds as to not over heat...
...and replaced the Solenoid with another Civilian one. Then one day I start her up and can smell some burning plastic. Pulled the Glowplugcard. Yup its burned. Parked the truck off and on just started it with the card then would pull the card to stop the burning. Way to busy to run the...
Yes,
You can just run a 12v wire strait to the relay to power your glowplugs. It has been detailed on here a few times. A quick search should find a post about it.
I used to smell that burn from time to time. Took me about 2 years to finally figure out it was a ground wire... or lack of. I know...
I hooked everything back up and went to both ends of each side of the glowplug harness. Each side reads 24 volts when the glowplug is cycling. Isn't the card supposed to regulate it to no more than 16 volts? Well my new card from Hill Billy Wizard isn't. Need to have a word with them...
...I ran into a strange issue. When I would start my CUCV I would smell an electrical burnt plastic smell. I knew instantly it was my GlowPlugcard. So I disconeected it and continued on my daily travels. I parked the vehicle and pulled the card. No issues except every time I started it I...
