The batteries are new, but after the long hard no start they were a bit drained, so I've got them on the charger today, should be G2G by this afternoon.
I did most of that, just not the fuel filter, was trying to decide if I was going to fo to a spin on filter...now I'm a little worried about doing that before I get it back to running...don't want to change too many variables all at once.
Ok, so I'm relatively new, here and to CUCV's. When I got this truck I immediately replaced the GPs and the GP relay, it generally still was a little difficult to start but always cranked up. Normally when it cranked after a hard start I got a large puff of black smoke. Yesterday I cycled the...
Well I added a cig lighter outlet, a radio and 2 2.5" speakers, unfortunately I ran into a voltage issue, wired the radio directly to the front battery, turned it off, but forgot to unplug a gps, couple of hours later the back battery was dead as a doornail...so put my charger on it and a couple...
Well, all things considered the lesson was not an expensive one...3.99 for a new fusible link, I'm back up and running, now on to the heater motor...sans connected batteries :) thanks for all your help...this site as others have said is amazing!!!!
Thanks Warthog, I was searching as you posted that, my first search didn't help much as I didn't know what the fusible link was called
Again thanks for the help...
So I need a new 16 G fusible link then, do they sell them at NAPA? Sadly I did disconnect them, put everything together and checked to make sure it started. Then didn't re-disconnect them, learning has occured...disconnect from start until FINISH!!! On the phone with NAPA now, hope they have...
Ok, so I found what I blew, it's the wire to the firewall, in the picture which is marked 1, it cooked right next to the black piece in the wire, not sure what this is or if I can simply cut it out and splice on the other side.
Ok so today I preformed the Doghead starter mod, started right up, unfortunately while I was tightening the relay down I bridged from the right side bolt to the top right connection (red wire) I heard a pop, got some white smoke on the right side of the engine well near the firewall, and now I...
Roger, I'll clean the wiring harness contacts...do you think that could cause just the light issues I have? Or do you think maybe I've got 2 different problems one with the dash one with the black out lights?
Ok so I've got my first electrical Gremlin...I had hoped it was just the bulbs...I have an 85 M1009, and the heater control light, as well as the speedo and fuel gauge lights are not working, all other lights function as designed with the exception of the blackout lights.
I've pulled all the...
The -34 does, it's just a little vague about that particular seal, I guess there's not much to it, it says to coat the seal in petrolatum, is that just grease or is there a current substitute?
So I'm a new guy here, and I'm in the process of getting my CUCV squared away and I noticed I had a bit of a leak under it, after replacing the heater core hoses I knew were leaking I saw this and wanted to bounce my thinking off you guys who have been there done that.
So this is on an 85, I...
Well, today I dug into the M1009, replaced both heater core lines, put in a new Glow plug controller from CUCV electric, replaced all the glow plugs, changed the oil, and topped off the coolant. Starts up and runs like a champ now, before the wait light wouldn't go out and it took quite a while...
