Welcome,
This will be awesome.
I have a post about my earlier build. I'm on my third iteration and trying to make it as upscale as possible, but before you put lots of effort into permanent work I recommend pulling all of the steel tapping plates out (soak them with kroil, blaster or some...
Just to add my 2 cents in the pile-on about drive shafts...I had all kinds of vibes that at first I attributed to tire/wheel (un)balance on the highway. Had the alternator mount come loose three times, kept losing hardware out of it.
Finally after some stupid off road tricks which scraped...
Some of us out there...just don't spend too much time posting. Not "full-timing" but have a turn key outback rig to do multi day trips into the wilderness.
My approach has been to get capability in the build and try it out, then if I don't like something, I change it. Incremental changes...
Here's what I did about 5 years ago. I went to a private registration agent who knows the system and the inspectors at DMV. NOT CHP. She told me to be patient and it took about a month and a half. She looked inside and verified that it had a bed, a toilet and a kitchen. Then I waited...
X-C mode on the CTIS has a 40 MPH speed alert on the dash ACP. That's pretty quick on the washboard, but the ride is smooth.
As for tires, campervan is running on Michelin XZLs which have proven to be fantastic in sand and pretty effective in steep and loose in Sand-Mud mode.
Death Valley -...
My rebuild of both front and rear was $1288, so that spounds pretty much in line with the industry norm.
Two factors: 1. I had the whole set done by a notoriously good shop with all new Spicer parts. 2. I'm in CA and have to pay CA prices...
The difference was amazing - I'd mistakenly thought...
Welcome to the community!
I went through this process a few years ago (only had to road march from Barstow to San Diego, though). My vehicle has its VIN tag intact and readable and I received a Florida title from Gov Liquidation when they had the DLA contract for vehicles. I went to a local...
You can always go to the dealer and measure them, but the pics on evilbay look to be similar design and dimensions.
The critical feature is the mounting rail on the seat bottom doesn't protrude so you can mount two seats side - by - side using 3" steel angle inside to bolt seats down to cab...
UPDATE: Too busy with other projects and still staring at an eberspracher hydronic heater that I want to install to plumb into a heated floor - I hear that's real nice.
I also picked up some a/c parts and will start on that system installation.
We did take the rig to high sierra for a...
Have fun. I've tooled around th S end of Anza Borrego quite a bit both in washes and mostly trails and some open sand/scrub. Mostly I use X-C on CTIS and Mode on shifter. I find using the transmission shifting up and down to be the best method of controlling speed going over the more...
Keep in mind this vehicle had the gunner's deck in place. I removed the stock seat and the gunner's deck and screwed 4ea 3" steel angles the length of the new seat's rails using approx 100 1/8" sheet metal screws on a 1" staggered(2 row) pattern from underneath. Then match drilled the angles...
As xomegaiv points out the F-150 jump seats work well. I think they were $75 or so each as pull outs from a fleet conversion shop.

First step - download all 7 of the TM .pdfs from the TM folder.
Second step - read every table of contents
Third step - find the troubleshooting sections and go through them step-by-step
In many cases the vehicles have been sitting and corroding for many months, if not years. Start (carefully)...
