    Wiper arms missing..

Look in the restorations section of this site, there is a nice little write up on restoring windshield frames and installing new glass.

New Deuce Owner TODAY! Clutch problem?

Sounds like the clutch is smoked. If you ran it a ways with it slipping badly, the flywheel will probably need resurfacing. Figure on a disk and pressure plate at the least. Changing the clutch on a deuce looks fairly easy compared to the old Ford and IHC dumpers I used to work on. The...

    Turning radius in town

Pull the box apart and have a look see. Jack up the front end and see how tight the box feels. If it is moving freely in the middle (wheels straight ahead), but gets really tight as you go to one side or the other, you have an internal problem. If someone has tried to take out the slack with...

    Pics of Super Singles

When you cut and weld 2 stock deuce rims, do you retain the split ring? Or do you make it up like a tubeless? I didn't know if the radials were tubed or not.

    Head gasket questions

That would probably be classified as a bad thing.

Cheap deuce tires, maybe tops too!

I made a trip today to pick up some tires. The 900 and 1100 tires are stacked 15' high. I had to show Chip how to grade a military tire, he was looking at tread depth on the edge of the lug instead of the middle. He has a couple of hundred 1100's that are about 25-50% tread. I got 2 good 1100...

    Head gasket questions

Is the valve/piston clearance that close at TDC? I have always watched that my intake valves did not hit the pistons at full open, but I was not aware that they were so close at TDC. What kind of piston clearance were you shooting for?

    Hood side panel questions

I have seen deuces with or without hood side panels. Does the engine area stay cooler with them off? Do most people prefer them on or off? The deuce looks good to me either way, so it may just be a matter of personal preference.

    deuce paint?

I had to move a van body back on a truck to replace the rear cab glass. I unbolted the body, jacked up the front an inch and put a 4' piece of 3/4 black pipe between the frame and the body rails. Same at the rear. Used a come along and a tree to pull the body back 3'. Because the front of the...

    front axle help

Look in manual TM 9-2320-361-34. The PDF file # is 069918. Chapter 10, starting at page 36 covers steering knuckle repairs and has excellent drawings. I don't have a scanner, so I can't send it to you. Sorry

rating, raving and a question too.

The reason you are getting good life from your paint is the pre-treat you used. The phosphatizing liquids are great for reducing corrosion, and really help paint adhesion. Solvent changes don't affect paint life in any way. Taking out the chromium that used to be in paints (lead, years ago)...

    front axle help

Let me look it up tonight. One of the manuals has a good exploded view. I'll copy it and send it to you. Check your toe-in. Look for a loose tie rod end, or loose wheel bearings. Any play can cause shimmy. Tires can be balanced on these beasts, just like any other vehicle. Just takes a bigger...

    Head gasket questions

Richard Did you set the valves deeper to match the amount you had the heads shaved? Or are you talking about setting the valve lash?

    Head gasket questions

OK. I have a lot of oil that has come out of the side, so I am probably safe in assuming there is a head gasket issue. I will get a set from Saturn and have at it. Westech, were your heads warped? Or did you just surface them because you already had the off?
