Its has its advantages to jump others and run inverters to name a few.The second battery which is a constant 14 volts instead of the 12 volts from the first battery is battery for equipment seeing as how the original 12 volts actually drops when a load is put on it.Plus you just got to have...
After looking at the pictures.Looks like it was hooked up in parallel.Which would have been ok but he said it was smoking.I wonder if its still original 24 volts if so it should be wired in a series.
WARNING as stated many times by members and posted many times on the forum if you convert your CUCV to 12 volts. (NO ONE ON THE SITE CAN HELP YOU). again Good luck :]

i run the rotella in all my gas trucks good oil.;] i run the royal purple 15w 40 in my red m1008 and so far im impressed. No serious issues it seems to run a little better and it doesnt smoke like it use to.I figure a stock m1008 running at 55mph with 456 gears needs all the help it can get.
Im actually thinking of doing away with the glow plug card and the sensors all together but for now im going 12 volts persay technically it was already 12 volts so really you are doing away with a problem.I have heard and seen to many thing happen with the resistors my uncle worked onthe cucvs...
I would have thought the 12volt conversion would be basically the same thing just with out all the problems of the 24 volt resistor.I took my resistor off today and used the wire with the fusible link in it to use as my jumper from the 12 volt block right above the Gp relay to the relay itself...
