REO 331 gasser rear main seal. Trick for replacing it?

OA331 gasser Rear Main Seal. There HAS to be a trick to this. Working on a deuce crane truck M108 with the OA331 gasser (Gold Comet). Procured a NOS rear main seal. Now, to get the old one out. It appears that the engine bell housing(which also supports the engine by two external mounts to the...

    M915 vs M916

Another factor in choosing a collector vehicle like this is the turning radius. I have a M915 and curb to curb turning diameter is 53' vs about 80' for the all weel drive 916 and above. For getting around on city streets and backing around, I appreciate the extra 'dexterity', if such a word...

pulling 12v without a batt imbalance

There are some 24v to 12v downconverters available. Check www.MPJA.com for some. They will not create any imbalance. Jim

    Best 24 volt battery charger?

I have been using cheap chargers I find at thrift stores for years. Usually find them for $5-$15. They are used for wheel chairs, forklifts, etc. They are made to charge 24v batteries and I can bring a dead pair of 12v car/light truck batteries up to the point where they'll start the deuce in an...

    m35a2 throwout bearing

Here's what I've learned so far: There are 3 point that need to be greased having to do with the clutch. One on each end of the clutch control rod (traverses sideways across bell housing and operates the throw out bearing) and one on the back of the throw out bearing (to allow it to slide fore...

Balancing the clutch on a deuce?

My manual TM9-2805-222-35 states emphatically that you must balance the clutch if you reface it or replace parts of it, or fail to mark the pressure plate position when you remove it. It further states that you are to use a "suitable balancing setup". Eh? Like, just where do you find those? I'm...

REO 331 gasser rear main seal. Trick for replacing it?

Ok. Do we have to remove the pan or just loosen it so as to pull the aluminum plate backward, clear of the engine? Appears to be a couple of screws affixing the aluminum plate upward to the block. I think we can access them from just behind the pan. Thanks for the help, guys.

REO 331 gasser rear main seal. Trick for replacing it?

The designers of the REO 331 Gold Comet gas engine in early deuces must have stayed up late, trying to make the rear main seal as hard to replace as possible. Normally, when you remove a clutch and look at the rear main seal on an engine, all you have to do is pop it out and cram a new one in...

Separating water from oil without a heat source?

If you want to get a little crazy, make/convert a centrifuge out of an old washing machine. It's the same idea as gravity, but faster and way more dangerous. :-) Seriously, the freezing idea sounds like the best route, or just let it separate naturally over time.

    M916-M920 Tech & Tips

I'd like to see the thread (or it's own forum, maybe?) include the M915, which I have. I can help anyone with converting the 915 to all 12v. Mine works great. I can even make 24v for the mil lighting plug if I add an inexpensive module. Basically, you just replace the 12/24V alternator and the...

Cat 7155 shift tower indicator blinking

There is a blinking light on the shift tower, down by neutral. It is not the light that indicates that the strip heaters are on. I assumed it was low air to the tranny, but I have full air and it's still blinking. What is that light? The blink rate is very consistent, about once a second. Looks...

Puyallup, WA gun show and mil vehicle show Oct 13

Yee haw!:jumpin: We'll have a whole bunch of indoor space, if you can make it on Saturday. We could put you two van guys on each end of the show so there will be dry space near everyone. Does the crank-out feature work? I'd like to see that. See you there. Thanks for chiming in. Jim
