I asked Goodyear customer service what pressure they'd recommend for their tires on my truck, given the min and max loads. They said 65 front and 80 back. 65 front brought back my death wobble.
I gave up trying to find documentation that would tell me the appropriate pressure for a tire with...
As an experiment, I dropped the air pressure in my front tires from 58 to 50PSI. Yuck! The truck seems to lean all over the place. But I can't get it to death wobble any more...
Tire Pressure?
GM Service Manual gives the following max loads for differnt tire pressures for E rated radials on C-K trucks.
36PSI 1742 lbs
44PSI 1984 lbs
51PSI 2205 lbs
58PSI 2425 lbs
65PSI 2623 lbs
73PSI 2844 lbs
80PSI 3042 lbs
The data plate on my truck says the max load is 3685 on...
Thanks.
What alignment specs should I check? Alignment shop checked their specs, and it said 0 toe-in. They checked multiple sources. TM says within 0.375" of 0. ORD & Conventional Wisdom says I want toe-in. I had them give me 1/16" toe-in.
Tires are 80 PSI max. They came set to 65PSI...
I got under the truck today, intending to shim the kingpin springs. I ordered replacements, but they'll take a while, and I'd like to know now if that's the problem. A heavy thunderstorm hit, delaying my plans. We've had 7" of rain in the last 24 hours.
I was down there long enough to learn...
I got the truck with 1911 miles on it. It now has about 3850 miles on it, 1,000 of my miles were interstate, 800 on secondary roads. I had no death wobble until today when I got it aligned.
Truck came with 1/16" toe out. Drove fine, with a slight pull to the right.
I took it in to have the...
I did read your thread, when searching for toe-in recommendations. My parts are not worn, and they adjust easily. the question is what to adjust them to.
i have an m1010 with 4.56 axles. I'm not sure if that changes the front end parts required. i suspect not, but i seem to recall reading...
suspension is stock. all i've done is lube it and (mis?)align it.
mechanic is looking at it now. he corrected me, it was 1/16 toe OUT. he brought it in to 0
i called ORD, thinking they would know. they said you need a little toe-in or it will wander.
wander? this was a full gallop!!
if...
The truck has 3800 miles on it. I'd believe dried-out rubber parts, or maybe a corroded part, but it hasn't had a chance to get worn.
Going back to him now. I just wish I had solid info on what toe-in should be on a stock CUCV M1010. I've seen threads that suggest 0 can cause death wobble...
Just spoke to the mechanic. All he did was adjust the toe-in from 1/16 to 0, and lube the chassis. He didn't loosen any other fasteners. He looked up the toe-in spec in 2 different places, and both said 0. TM says +/- 0.375, so 0 certainly seems within range. I don't know if I should bring...
The truck was running fine. I took it on to get the alignment checked, just as a precaution. The shop was recommended by my regular mechanic, who doesn't do alignments. The shop gets good reviews, and the mechanics have enough gray hair to have seen it all.
On the way home, I got the Death...
Danforth anchors are light weight, fold flat for storage, and hold well in mud. The harder you pull, the deeper they bury. Tie a rope to the crown so you can pull it out of deep mud more easily when you're finished. Much easier than burying your spare.
Will do. That was my instinct. I read some articles that said the frame was a better ground than a dedicated wire. I'm reluctant to send 300A of 24VDC into a frame. I want to control exactly where that goes.
I guess I'll need to replace the horn suppressor then, and any others that have...
Tonight, the Fluke 375 showed 0.5A on the wire leading from the batteries to the 12V Distribution Block, and 0A on the wire leading to the 24V Distribution Block. I removed everything from the fuse block, all fuses, flashers, and the tap feeding my tinytach. It made no difference. So my...
The TM instructions talk about bleeding the air out of the filter. Once that is done, they say "start the engine". (Easy for them to say.) I don't see any mention there of removing glow plugs, so I thought I'd ask.
Glow plugs cause so many problems, perhaps pulling them as part of the annual...
It seems we've heard this story before... Is it the case that nearly-expired batteries are sometimes pushed to the point of failure by the stress of cranking to bleed air from the fuel system after a filter change?
I'm not sure if this argues for keeping the batteries on a trickle charger so...
Wayward amps
OK. I took lots of measurements, the sum total of which leave me confused. I'll start with the measurement that seems most significant. In the picture below, the heater control cable passes through the firewall into the engine compartment. 3 wires are together in a flat ribbon...
I haven't installed the inverter or winch yet. I'm trying to get the basic truck running right before I make it more complicated. When I do install them, *should* I run a dedicated ground return wire? My instinct says yes, but I've read that it's better to use the frame. That seems like a...
