I followed your lead and checked my trailer hinge eyes. They all had about 1/2" of usable thread behind the nut. It would make for a much cleaner and simpler modification to unbolt them and add a spacer. The CARC paint made it look like the eye bolts were welded on - not bolted...
I had an idea on this problem today and I thought I'd throw it out here for consideration. I went out and measured my 101A2 tailgate hinges and came up with the following info:
1. The total hinge width is about 3 3/4"wide.
2. The hinge strap on the tail gate is 2" wide.
3. The distance between...
Try allensfasteners.com for the tee nuts and whatever else you need. They come in way under anything you can get from the box stores and they ship quickly.
jesusgatos and therealsundance, I appreciate your comments. I have some scrap 3" square tube that I am going to weld below the remainder of my lunette mount. It will be long enough to fit into the 2" ball receiver (about 8"). Then I'll drill and add grade 8 bolts through the square tube and...
My M101A2 had been swapped over to a 2" ball when I bought it. The lunette had been cut off and the ball receiver was welded under the remainder of the lunette mount. It is a very strong weld -- I've drug the trailer around fully loaded with firewood over primitve roads with no problems.
As...
How about:
An 8-10 ft aluminum ladder at an angle between the ground and over the lip of the bed with the gate down.
Tie the ladder to the bumperettes to prevent sliding.
A piece of ply wood, or a 2x12 the width of the ladder with 2 2x4x12s to act as guides on the outside of the ladder...
I have a M101A2/3 (M116A3 1-ton chassis with the drop axle under a late M101A2 bed) that has had this modification done to it. The guy I bought it from had cut 4.75 inches off the in-bed fenders. He tack welded this piece on top of the fender left at the bed wall. Then he welded a flat piece...

I second Dave. I just found this thread and would like to see what you've done. I am really curious about your spare tire arrangement.

If you've got your heart set on using the 105 landing leg, why not run a brace from the leg mount area to the support where you got the ground end strapped? Turn your set-up 90 degrees to the right (from rear of trailer) and you can access it from one side so you don't have to crawl...
Here are the plans and notes for the Long Braces for the fender extensions. Since the underbed supports are different between the front and rear of the cargo bed, I had to change some of the bolt hole locations. The first and last holes in the front braces were moved to go between cargo bed...

I just checked their site and they show cable asemblies for a 101 and a 101a2 for around $27.00 + Shipping.
I just had them send me a M116 data plate and iI am happy with their turn-round time.
I just went throught the title/registration process in New Mexico for an M116A2 I bought from a guy who bought it from GL. Everything was bill of sale. To make a long story short (3 months worth), get the SF97s. It is a lot easier/cheaper to transfer titles than go through the headache of...
Since I can't leave well-enough alone...
I just got through installing a 23-inch brace that fits this fender extension. I designed it to fit in front of, or behind, the extension to allow for additional storage - like H2O or fuel. I put a set behind the fenders and left the 7-inch braces in...
Really, I was thinking cab-to-frame, bed-to-frame, hood-to-cab, or possibly even radiator-to-frame...
But, if you happen to come across another set, I could use 4 for this idea I have...
