    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

After power washing the motor bay and installing the ORD motor mounts and Oem motor mount spacer keeping the bolts loose, I got the motor in the M1009. I don’t think I can call it an M1009 anymore with all the upgrades it has acquired over the decade. What do you guys think? Anyhow... At first...

Today is a beautiful day! She is all done! I got the passenger exhaust manifold on. Installed Quadstar glow plug heat shields. Had fitment issues with the made in China turbo. The Turbo master would not work with the mold bolt patterns. I cleaned up a Gm1 turbo and installed it. I had to...

I went to O’reillys and picked up another 1/8 npt tap and a 21/64 drill bit. Putting the 21/64 bit on the drill press and slowly drilled the pyrometer port on the passenger exhaust manifold using wd-40 as a lubricant for the bit. Taping the threads was easy with an adjustable wrench with the...

Well, when it is time to drop in the motor I’ll figure it out. I have spare lift point brackets I could use to make it a 4 point but it does not solve the bracket bending issue. The 2 point with lifter/leveler is a good idea. The intake hoist bracket is too pricey and I don’t feel comfortable...

That is a great idea! I also noticed that the two brackets always bend when the motor is lifted with one chain doubled up. I was also thinking about getting or making a 3’ bar with loops on it to prevent the brackets from bending and hitting the return line causing pinching. Well, today I was...

    Cucv fan clutch engagement?

Ok thanks for the reply’s! I noticed the Cucv clutch is bigger then the new clutch I got from O’Rileys. Is there going to be a difference between them? I was hoping to get a clutch that engages at lower temps and rpms. I never heard the Cucv clutch engage before. Even at 130 degrees.

Here is where I left it at for today. The rest of the night was spent running back and forth to the parts store to figure out the best fitting belt sizes to compliment the Dampened V-Belt Crank Pulley since it is not the same size as OEM. Here are the 3 best fitting V-Belt part numbers that...

Next up, the 6.5 exhaust manifold heat shield. I cleaned this one up in my kitchen sink and installed it. I had to move around the rubber return injector lines to make sure they did not touch the heat shield. I also got the rear motor puller bracket installed and the power steering pump...

I removed the new harmonic balancer and installed my Fluidamper. Here is a real treat for you guys! Last year I scored a Dampened V-Belt Crank Pulley. They are super rare and are not made anymore. This one is still in like new shape. I cleaned it up in the kitchen sink from all the dust it...

I cleaned up the water pump pulley in the sink and mounted it. Compairing the 6.2 Oem 5 blade fan to the 1977-1979 Pontiac 454 7 blade fan, the new 6.2 fan clutch bolts right on! I washed the 7 blade in the sink and installed it just for a mock up.

It finally warmed up and I have 3 days off work! I installed an Oem 6.5 oil fill line for the turbo. Then installed a 6.2 fuel return hard line and a used clear tube connecting the ip return to the hard line.

    Cucv fan clutch engagement?

I think I read that the Cucv fan does not engage until it is at 130 degrees? Is that correct? Could I be miss informed? If this is true, would there be a fan clutch that would engage at a lower temp?

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Along time ago I researched and researched for a 6.2 diesel fan upgrade. Well... there isn’t one... At least that I am aware of... However there is a fan that is built for a 1977-1979 Pontiac 454 that bolts right up to a 6.2 Diesel fan clutch. They do not make them anymore either... Here is...

Well done for the day. I have to work this weekend and have some family coming to visit next weekend, so I do not know when I’ll get more time to work on this Optimizer. Stay tuned!

Not forgetting the timing mark bracket... Also got the Cucv J Code Dual Alternators installed. So far so good as far as figments go. A quick mock up of the Quadstar upper plenum.

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

While working on the motor today, I took a quick parts run/break and test drove a 2004 Chevy Duramax Dually. I can not stop thinking about it! 165,000 miles and only $14,500. It would be so nice to have this truck with a big camper and tow the M1009 to the trailheads.

Next up is the 6.2 water cross over, coolant temp sensor and heater core fitting nipple. I used some Blue RTV on the threads of the heater core fitting nipple and thread tape on the coolant temp sensor. For the oil fill tube, I used a 6.5 because the 6.2 oil fill tube is not needed with the CDR...

It is water pump time! I noticed BMI did not clean out the valleys on the timing cover. A simple flathead and some scraping did the trick. The water pump I choose to use is an upgraded 16 blade from Flow Kooler. It is said to flow about 115 GPM compared to the Oem 6.2 85-89 GMP. It was $177...
