What Did You Do With Your Aux Cooling System

Mounted my 1088 vertical trans cooler between the frame rails. Pic in my build thread, was super simple and only required new hoses. I put new fans on (much lower profile) as well though to gain some clearance for airflow. No issues in 10k+ miles.

And now a pic for today's progress: Now it's really time to make a door!

    M1088 camper conversion

No pics, but a HUGE day yesterday... While working on the roof rack, I noticed my voltage only going down despite having the motor running. At one point I left it running for quite some time while I moved it back and forth to raise and lower the roof rack components- and low and behold, the...

    M1088 camper conversion

Sounds viable... Weld some platforms on it for mounting them and call it good. Super easy: Find and mount compatible pump (check earlier in build thread, I think details are in there; mounting is two threaded holes in the cross bar) Unthread hyd hose from back of manifold Remove and toss...

    M1088 camper conversion

I forget the actual dia of the intake piping upstream of the turbo inlet, but i'd assume you can just match that and be good. The two sides that I have merge into the same pipe at the base of the cab rear. Off memory, it's 4". Pretty easy to see that bumping up the upper would leave "enough"...

    M1088 camper conversion

I do wish I double stacked the filters as well. I would aim to put them all on one side with the expansion tank and dipsticks/fill tubes, leaving the space on the pass side to use freely. Totally should do that. If you're going into the roofline, I'd keep it narrow-ish and use the remaining...

    M1088 camper conversion

In a word, small. I kept it constrained to that size due to the roof sheet metal seam and not wanting to cut into that panel. It's also about as low as you can go on the bottom side of it too. It's awkward but possible to use, although our dog (not huge, around 40#) loves it and is quite...

    M1088 camper conversion

Largely the same view/photo but now the throne has been fully installed and the drain and sump are fully functional (powered and plumbed). Last 2 steps are shower install and door construction/install.

    M1088 camper conversion

It was a big day today. So much effort behind a very boring photo... Just need to install the mixer and showerhead, hook up the drain, and wire up the sump pump. The end is in sight! Very happy with what I am looking at right now.

Using upper stock frame rails for subframe

A couple of points from my experience: I pinned the habitat at the front and not the rear. Doesn't seem to make that big of a deal in practice. It's rigidly attached at the lead edge of the box, just behind the cab. When negotiating twisty/rolly bits, the box will lean with the truck as the...

Not planning on the Overland show, just going to be in the SW neighborhood in that timeframe. Will PM you some details- not that there are many...

Congrats Keith! If you head to the NW, drop a line and if you're in the SW in Apr/May, let me know where. Would love to check out your rig.

    M1088 camper conversion

Making progress, I am pretty pleased with it so far: The box corners are still raw glass. They will eventually end up getting faired out and shaped a little better, but for now they fill the purpose. I will also need to trim up the edges and massage one or two places, but overall I am...

    A0 3116 Throttle Cable snapped

Or at least a neighbor who is! I had a possible wiring/ground/short issue in the CTIS harness and I can tell you that this is one of the simplest and most effective things to do. If you have any issues with the CTIS, do this! With a dual reading air pressure gauge and 2 switches (1 is...

M1078 Fire Truck with eco hubs

I have lockers from Bryce Wasielak. I don't think he's on the forum but I can PM you his cell number. I don't know if he's still doing them but he was very easy to work with if your schedule is flexible.

    M1088 camper conversion

I give you the world's most complicated roof rack/mobile boathouse, or at least the skeleton's proof of concept- it works!: Boat loading cycle fully completed. Obviously, plenty of work still to do- put in a floor, skin it up, wire it up, etc... and I also have additional actuators to...

    M1088 camper conversion

It will be skinned and used as the boathouse. I'd prefer to not have the boat out and exposed to 70 MPH road debris or 2 MPH tree branches. I am thinking of thin plywood, skinned with fiberglass and then faired in to smooth it out. Yes, that'll be some work, but I think that's the most...

Huge mistake. I won a GP auction…. Cali FMTV Project “ ‘Merica”

For me, the prime objective was halving the drivetrain speed. That part made it a no-brainer for me.
