Storage term is not a problem. Old stale gas seems to work as well as fresh gas for this purpose. The only thing you may find with gas/oil mix is the longer you let it set, the more slime settles out to the bottom of the barrel, which doesn't hurt a thing if you leave it in the bottom.

+1 on the Drill Dr. Although it is not entirely foolproof, it is pretty easy. I messed up one or two bits before I got it right but was then able to correct my mistake. You won't regret buying it.

Congratulations on entering the wonderful world of WMO. I just filled up last night; sitting on $200 worth of fuel for $30 invested. You will never want to go to the diesel pump again.
Zach
I have no experience with CUCVs, only my deuce. Like armadillo, I have only pulled up to a diesel pump twice and that was only because I got behind on filtering WMO. We haven't gotten into WVO yet.
As far as government goes, we are still working through that. There is certain paperwork to be...
Our first filter setup was a 12 volt pump with a 5 micron absolute canister that clogged after 7 gallons. We made a bag filter similar to randini's, taking it down to 1 micron nominal, and then put it through the 5 absolute. Other than that, we have not done a lot with canisters.
Randini...
I picked up a used one for $25. For me, it made more sense to spend the money and get something that works as opposed to spending several hours building one that doesn't work half as good. As motorcar said, it is not just bent flat stock with holes drilled in it. There are slight creases in...
Thanks Tom,
I do appreciate your input. I am in contact with a fellow that has parts but as you have already fiqured out there is more damage than just the busted teeth. There are some other gears that show grinding damage to the leading edges, we will have to replace a bearing or two as well...
The transmission is apart. Fifth gear on countershaft is missing a couple of teeth. Nothing else seems realy bad.
The bearing on the input shaft feels kind of suspect. The rear bearing on the countershaft feels really rough.
Can a rough bearing condition lead to busted teeth?
There are...
I wondered about that. With 6 to 8" of snow in the forecast, it was decided to drop the transmission so we could work on it inside.
We got it out last night and hope to tear it apart soon so that we can have it back together for the next big snow that we get.
Tim
That's a big stack.
On a good looking truck.
We're running 63% WMO and it's kinda smokey some times (especially when it is 20 degrees out). I wondered if a stack extension would help spread the spoke some. Then fifth gear took leave, so that needs fixed first.
Thanks Tom, I got your pm. Hopefully we will be removing the transmission tonight in order to see what else is wrong in there. You all make it sound really simple. Thanks everyone for all your help.
Zach
It is really foamy. I didn't know that gear oil/trans lube tar could support that many bubbles.
It has a brown color that (probably) indicates the presence of water. It's nasty, no doubt.
The picture was taken just minutes after shutdown as we had the tunnel cover off and were running it...
I am less than an hour east from the sellers location. His originial Craigslist ad showed that he would deliver local. You can have it delivered and stored at my place until you have more time to make arrangements if you like.
Oh, and it was 4 degrees f overnight here, so I encourage you in...
Good point. Actually what I should be asking for is the fifth gear on the countershaft. As best I could tell, that is the only gear currently showing damage.
I talked to a fellow about a trans near Chicago for a couple of hundred dollars but with shipping at another couple hundred, I just...
I searched but must have overlooked it. Can you post a link or tell me a little about it?
Does anybody have any deuce trans shipping experience?
Thanks for the suggestions and input so far.
Tim
If I had a spare one of them laying around, I would probably find a way to use it. The 12 volt transfer pumps just make it so much easier and quicker. I think the pump we use the most is a 12v from Northern tool that has a pick up hose that makes it easy to pump from different size containers...
