Going Green
It was 14 degrees here in Knoxville last night. Even though we don't have a huge ammount of sub 20's temperatures, it would sure be nice to fire up a pre-warmed engine. Luckily, my workplace has a bunch of outlets to plug into. They have several dozen electric vehicles in service...
Thanks Westech.
I had to replace my totally rotted out radiator so, I decided to get the GM block heater too. It was $40 and the new rad was $300 installed. A little high, but my work hours, a kitchen remodel end the holidays fast approaching caused a time problem.
So far the guys a City...
I'll check it out!
Thanks again Joe.
I'll be working on it next Monday.
My work is keeping me too busy right now to do anything else. I will be sure to let everone know the outcome.
I am about to get my rad rebuilt and thought it might be a good time to install a block heater.
I have a M1009 with a new 6.5L engine.
First, has anyone done this to their 6.2L or 6.5L engine and did it help or hurt?
Second, do I really need one since I live in the South?
Third, since...
Thanks!
It sure was Jimmy.
I got two at an auction and the highest bid (mine) won them. The new engine was the biggest reason I kept this one. I sold the other one to a buddy. It was excellent inside and out. I took the chance that I could fix any minor imperfections to get the new engine...
Rad and Tranny
Thanks Westech.
Since I was fortunate enough to get a new motor, I want to do all I can to make it last. The power seems much greater than my last M1009.
While looking underneath I discovered not only a complete new engine , but a new starter and possibly a new/rebuilt...
Nice!
That is one nice paint job!
Did you have to do anything special to get the proper cosistancy? Also, what kind of sprayer/compressor combo did you use?
I have been looking and can't seem to find anything about why the M1009 I just bought would have a NEW 6.5L in it. Has anyone heard of this happening?
Also, I thought I had a loose rad hose , but it turns out my rad is leaking bad right in front of the fan (no damage visable). Anyone have an...
Funny!
Funny you should mention that. It does have a GEP sticker on the valve cover stating the engine is emissions exempt.
I just went over both vehicles, including crawling around underneath. The vac hose was indeed cracked and the bottom rad hose had a loose clamp. All better!
The 6.5...
I purchased two 1985 M1009's. They are both in great shape and run great.
One has a 6.2L engine as normal. The other has a factory NEW, depot installed 6.5 L engine.
The 6.2L has excellent paint, even underneath. Everything works and it's ready to drive.
The 6.5 has a radiator leak and the...
Thanks!
So that's why my M1009 is shifting so hard! I was hoping there wasn't a bigger problem.
I thought it might be normal for mine since it has a 6.5L in it.
Thanks for the info!
Rear End
I couldn't say.
I'm out of pocket...away from the trucks for a few days and can't check. Possibly one of the guys here can give you an idea until I can get over there. There should be a thread or two to give you some info. All I can remember is they have a Dana 60 front and 14...
Hey guys,
I have decided to sell my two M1028's.
One is a 1986 M1028 in excellent, UNMOLESTED condition with 56,172 miles. The other is a 1986 M1028A2 and is also in excellent, UNMOLESTED condition and has 92,560 miles. Both can be driven anywhere you want with no issued whatsoever!
They...
First things first!
Thanks Wolf!
Hell, I don't even own a voltmeter!?! At least I can't find one!
I'm getting a multitude of things to check out.
So far actual work has prevented me from doing anything!
This weekend I WILL collect up the basics and get to work on my Blazer.
I will try all.
I'm not bummed at all...I'm having a ball!
Getting time to work on it and learning as I go are part of the challenge.
These things are adictive. I have one in the woods behind the house and one out front. Now I'm thinking of adding a third.
Well, I guess I should get at...
Update #1
Well,
I finally got those trees cut and all the honey do list stuff accomplished and was able to spend about an hour on the Blazer this evening.
I put a bottle of Diesel Kleen and ten gallons of fresh fuel in her. Then, I replaced the fuel filter (this time with a stock one), bled...
Those are great tips!
I coudn't find the spin-on filter conversion at China-Mart so, I'll be looking at the parts store. I will be taking both alternators to be checked, since that is on my "to do" list anyhow.
I'm off to cut down some trees. There were some big storms here last night and...
Thanks Stampy and emmado22.
I'll be getting up early in the morning so, I'm hitting the rack. Wal Mart first thing, then the charging system. I'll let you know what happened and get those pictures!
